    Gamertag limitations


    Steam users have the luxury of changing their display name at will to anything without worrying about the name being taken. On Xbox you get a bunch of numbers at the end of your chosen name if it was taken, in addition to it costing money to change it frequently.

    Please give us the option to have a ‘display name’ option that is separate to a Gamertag, that can be anything you like within reasonable limits, and can be changed as much as you like. You can choose whether you would like this name to be displayed in multiplayer games instead of your Gamertag.

    Xbox would make a decent amount of money from people changing their Gamertag, but this whole thing feels dated and it would ultimately be a huge step forward for Xbox. In the long run I feel this would help retain more players when you consider the options that the competition has.

    As someone who got his first Xbox in 2004 and has been a loyal Xbox fan for 18 years now, this is my most highly desired feature.

    Well no as it would break the system you are forgetting why it changed

    One people can have any name they want with a hash tag without a major update of the system

    Since it's is still 16 characters just 4 is reserved for hash tag if needed

    If not then it can't be used

    And you are still stuck with 12 you should've changed when you had a chance

    If you change it on a 360, you should still be able to use the old gamertag system and use more than 12 characters. Otherwise, there's no way around the limit.

    Community gamertag "www 360DF com" has hit the 100 friend limit. Hopefully this limitation is lifted in the future. Until then, this gamertag will function as our secondary community gamertag.
