    Gamertag issue


    Hello,

    Wonder if somebody can help here... I'll try and be as clear as possible.

    I use a very old hotmail account for my xbox live. It's been linked for years and I want to change it but I'm having trouble.

    I picked up a Windows Phone a while back and I set up a new, more sensible E-Mail account and linked it to my phone.

    Next I downloaded the xbox games app which automatically linked the new E-Mail account to a gamertag like user12345 or whatever. I can't remember the exact username and I no longer have the app, I use smartglass.

    What I want to do is remove the association with that user12345 with my new E-Mail and move my Xbox Live subscription from my old hotmail to my new one but it wont let me as this user12345 is associated with new E-Mail.

    How can I accomplish this? It's not a very clear process at all and I'm stuck.

    Unable to add son to xbox one

    I have this exact same issue, spent hours yesterday on chat support, it has now been escalated. I can create new gamertag's on the console but dont really want to lose my sons existing gamertag.

    HELP - DLC not accesible

    Just to add to this, DRM based content is issued with two licenses, one to the console ID and one to the Gamertag that downloaded it, so to use this content on another console the Gamertag that downloaded it must be signed into Live, whereas all profiles can use it on the original console, unless you transfer the licenses with the DRM tool of course.

    If think you would need to move user12345 to another new account before you could move you old gamertag to your new email. But you would have to wait 30 days between moves. Although this process may have changed.

    It would have been easier to have created a new alias for you old hotmail account then made that alias the primary name and just used that account for windows instead of creating a new account.

    Thats what i did when i wanted a new email address.

    Thanks! I think I can probably still do that, I'd just like to remove the old name, it's about 20 years old and the E-Mail reflects the maturity of a 12 year old. I'll give that a bash as a work around.

    If anybody else knows a better way I'd be glad to hear it but I'll try that for now. Thank you! Gamertag issue :)

    If you are trying the alias solution then this can be done in the settings of outlook.com.

    Just find the alias settings, create new email, make it primary. The old email would then become an alias that you can delete if you want

    That's actually a great workaround, particularly given you can delete the old e-mail once it becomes the alias.

    There's a sticky post in this forum that explains that spacing and capitalization don't matter.

    I can't change my Gamertag (GT).

    Just because you can't friend request a GT doesn't mean it is available. First of all, all GT are tied to services like Zune or Games for Windows LIVE. If a GT doesn't exist on Xbox, it might be in use on one of those services. Also, spaces and capitalization
    are not considered when looking for available GTs. For example, "Major Nelson" is the same as "MajorNelson" is the same as "MaJoR nElSoN". Basically if the service says the GT isn't available, it isn't available.

    Failure to "add" tells you little. You can always try editing a Profile link with all the different spacing variants... Meet

    Solutions

    Solution 1: Restart your Xbox 360 console and download your profile again

    First, restart your console. Then, try to download your profile again. Here’s how:

    Download your Xbox LIVE profile

    1. Press the Guide button on your controller.

    1. Select Download Profile.
      Note If you don’t see Download Profile, it probably means you’re signed in to your profile. Press
      X to sign out.
    2. Enter the Windows Live ID that’s associated with your Xbox LIVE gamertag. If you don’t know your Windows Live ID or password,

      see Manage your Windows Live ID      .

      Note If your account is an Xbox LIVE child account, you have to use the parent’s Windows Live ID to download the profile.
    3. Select the storage device for your profile (for example, Hard Drive).

      Your profile will begin downloading. When the download is complete, you can choose whether to require a Windows Live ID password to sign in to your profile.
    Remember Password option

    The Remember Password option is off by default, which means you’ll be prompted for your Windows Live ID password when you sign in to your Xbox LIVE profile. Leave

    You should now be able sign in to this console using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

    Solution 2: Contact Xbox Support

    If the previous solution didn’t solve the problem, contact

    Call the Xbox Support number, IF your gamertag has personal identifiable info in it they will put a force GT change on the account
