Gamertag is unique, yet shows numbers after.

Hello!

I have only just made a new account, and it's been probably over ten years since I have been on live, so this is all new to me.

With this new account I had made a new Gamertag, which fortunately, hadn't been taken.

Instead, it gave me a randomly generated tag, which I had attempted to change to the tag I had previously tried to use.

While changing the tag, I think it might have been a temporary place holding one while the name would have changed to the one I had chosen for myself (Without the set of numbers after the ID).

It seems to have gone over twice and decided to stick the numbers on the end, even though the Username had not been taken in any form according to the Check Availability.

Is there anyway this could be reverted, and changed back to the original? If so it would be kindly appreciated.

Thanks for coming to the forums. If you actually did do it twice, you would of been charged for one of the changes. So if there was no charge, then the gamer tag is most likely being used by someone. With the

new update you can have the same gamer tag now as someone else, it will only add the suffix to it. You can always chat with support and they can see if it was changed to the original also.

When you go to Contact Us,follow these steps to request a call from support:

Step 1 ----select Xbox One
Step 2 ----select see other options then subscription changes
Step 3-----select show contact options

Step 4 ----select request call from support

Once they call explain the issue and they will be able to help you. Note that these options regularly change so just keep selecting something that gives request a call from support as a contact option.

Thank you for the quick response.

I will see what I can do, I was making the Gamertag in game (Halo: Master Chief Collection), and then it auto-generated a tag that I did not choose after I chose my original name.

So I had gone to the site and changed the tag from there, although it said that the name had not been taken previously in game, like others that I had tried. This one was completely available (Without any suffix' at the end of the tag.)

Appreciate the help, I will see what they come back with.

it's likely dependant on if the gamertag already exists. If it already exists it will be unique by the postfix # followed by a number.

These are the new gamertag styles.

Also be aware that the new gamertags may not show everywhere yet.
