Gamertag is taken even though everywhere says its not

it could also have been used by someone on zune or something like that as the gamertags were all linked at one point, so not sure if thats still the case.

Unfortunately that means its inactive but claimed. If it stays inactive for a set amount of time I believe it becomes free to use again. I think unfortunately you will have to wait and check periodically and hopefully eventually it will be automatically
cleared for reuse

Yeh that was what I assumed. I think it's pretty stupid because you have no idea when the gamertag will become active again and then it has the chance to be taken be someone else. Would be nice if there was at least some acknowledgment of this so
I could decide if its worth waiting for.

Just because you cant find the exact spelling of the gameetag the system wont tell yiu because you dont know that person

Seeing as there is millions of different combinations its highly unlikely you have 3 cray super computers and 3 years to spend looking for such a combination you wouldnt be able to allocate that much computer time anyhow

Gamertag is the same as gamertag or Gamer tag

You have to use.the EXACT.context to find anyname

But choosing a name must.be unique so if you dont want a suffix unique it with your own numbers inplace of letters or maybe similar sounding letters to replace the actual letters

If you are refering to non ms sites then no never refer to them

The ONLY OFFICal site you should refer to is xbox.com when searching for names

And even then you have to try millions of different combinations to find the exact combo

I don’t really understand how informing me when a gamertag expires and is free to use breaks privacy laws. They literally did this in huge batches every few years. If I can’t find the actual profile on Xbox live which you can do with a simple friend
search you can see if someone is using the tag. It isn’t complicated. There is no account with that name so I assume that account has been diactivated. My issue is with how MS have the system set. If no one is using the tag why not just allow other people
to use it right away or atleast say how long it will be till it’s available again. I don’t want the person social security number or address.
