    Gamertag Inactive


    Hey XBL Support, I didn't know where to post this, but I thought this would be the best place, as it has something to do with managing accounts. Is there any chance that an inactive gamertag could be cleared up for use? I've had a friend request sent to
    the tag I've been wanting for about a year now just to keep tabs on whether it was reactivated or not. Let me know if its possible that the tag could be reset. Thanks in advance!

    Original gamertag is inaccessible & GLITCHED due to a inactive spaced version

    Inactive spaced gamertags should be removed and released. They are inactive, 100 percent inactive place holding gamertags.

    Do you think Microsoft will clear out old unused gamertags?

    They actually do this but its not live gamertags as much as Microsoft accounts goes inactive for x period they will purge it

    Hello Bloody Shiba,

    If a Gamertag is not in use for a long period of time, it should be cleared up for use. Keep in mind that it could be a very long time until it gets cleared up.

    Hey! Thanks for the reply! I think it has been inactive for quite awhile, as it has the original Xbox gamer picture and 0 gamerscore. I also tried the GT when I first joined the Xbox Live community (2009). Is there any chance you could give an approximation
    on how long it could take? Thanks again!

    just to add Live is NOT the only service that uses the game tag system, windows PC games and Zune do as well so JUST because it is inactive and has a zero game score does not mean it is not inactive anywhere else.

    I realize that, but didn't they shutdown windows live? And also, is there any way to check their activity on those 2? Though I highly doubt they're active on those

    No,there is no way to check on those 2.

    You cannot request that a gamertag be "freed up".

    The last time Microsoft freed up inactive tags was when the servers for the original xbox live were shut down but people were snapping them up to sell them so when or if they free up gamertags again is anyones guess.

    All you can do is keep checking the gamertag every so often to see if it's become available or not.

    How to submit a ticket for requesting an inactive account gamertag to be reset?

    How do you know it's inactive? Gamertags are used on several Microsoft services,not just Xbox live,so there is no way to know if a gamertag is inactive or not.

    Just because a gamertag has low gamerscore of hasn't logged into Xbox live for a certain amount of time does not mean it's inactive.

    The article is admittedly old, but it is from after they released inactive Gamertags the first time.
