okay so i got my new xbox one, i went to sign into my email to get my old gamertag back and it says it was taken is there a way to match the website tag to my xbox one live tag?

My Gamer Tags don't match! Help!!

I set up my xbox live account on my console and got my gamer tag. When I logged online to the xbox website, I was given a different gamer tag. I can't change my tag without using up my one free name change. Why are they different and how do I correct the
one online so it matches my console gamer tag?

Gamertag

I have the Gamertag . I used it because I thought my Gamertag would need to match my MCE name when I connected to XBOX Live. When I found out, that they didn't have to match I thought to myself 'Yeah, I'll change my Tag later'. And now I'm sitting
here having realized, that changing a Gamertag costs 9,99€ for some reason. Now my question: Is there any possible way for me to change my Gamertag once for free to my preferred name? Most websites allow you to change your name at least once. If you have entered
a name you don't want to use in the future, you can use that.

Are you using the same e-mail address on the XBOX as you are in other places?

my email address is the same one i use for everything, its even a hotmail email address, the thing is i have my email accessible, i have my gamertag, my gamertag that i made on my xbox isnt the one that my account online shows its way off from what i created.
I just need to figure out how to match my xbox one tag to my online tag, same email address for xbox one and online

I would suggest trying to contact chat or phone support bud. That way, they can try to verify your account and provide you the right email. Genesis1953 might be right that you are using a different email. You might be thinking that you're using the right
email but it might be not. Chat or phone support can definitely help you on that.

I understand that but the Tag it's self is only useable on xboxlive the account and the xboxlive gamertag are 2 different names as such i can change my name to my my Microsoft account but on xbox live it remains Fur Dragon. The gamer tag is
solely used for xbox live and doesnt affect the Microsoft account in any way.

The gamertag system doesnt recognize spaces or capitalizations in gamertags as making them unique. For example the gamertag 'gamertag' would be considered the same as 'Gamer TaG' by the name change system.

That being said the gamertag 'HyBriD Storm' is already in use as the gamertag 'HyBriDStorm' which is why it says it is already in use.
