If the system says it's taken, then it's in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers. The tag system is using on other services, not just Xbox. Also, the system doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So if you look up "gamertag" it may not
show up but may be taken because someone has it has "gamer tag".

@ngocphi I think you're misunderstanding it. I just check available and no one who claim it yet. So what the heck it is already taken? Who's taken? Nobody! I understood how you saying. But if "ngocphi", "NgocPhi" and "Ngoc Phi", doesn't claim and own by
someone yet. I hope you understand how this system stupid and waste many Gamertag out there.

Unfortunately, the gamertag system is being managed by the system alone based on its algorithm. If it doesn't allow you to take it back, I am afraid you cannot claim it back yet. I suggest to wait for couple of hours and try to claim it again. It's possible that it was not completely freed up by the system yet.

If the system says a tag is taken, then it's taken and you cannot use it. The tag system is in use in other Microsoft services, so even if it's not on use on the Xbox it can be in use elsewhere. The system also doesn't see things like spaces as making a
gamertag unique. Even though the gamertag is not taken as sir flexalot, it is in use as sir flex a lot.
