gamertag different on x box live and Microsoft account

I have somehow ended up with different gamertags on these accounts I was suspended for non payment of gold membership. I have since payed for 12 months subscription but because the Microsoft tag is different to my xbox tag I still can,t sign in

Do you think Microsoft will clear out old unused gamertags?

They actually do this but its not live gamertags as much as Microsoft accounts goes inactive for x period they will purge it

You may have a different gamertag associated with the email. Do you use any other email address? Maybe try using the forgot username/credentials and entering your email, then see what username they have associated with the email you used. This may happen
when you establish a live account with an auto selected gamertag and rather then changing the gamertag you create a new one. These are my best guesses as I'm unfamiliar with this type of problem.

A little bit more info.

When I try to join live, it says:

Setup a Microsoft account for xbox live

Get your unique gamertag

Choose your membership level

After that, I enter my Microsoft account info but then I get:

This Microsoft account is associated with a different xbox live profile. Try different account.

I am confused. What xbox live profile am I associated with? There is another user in this box but he uses different email account and gamertag,

I am trying to change the WLID of an existing account. I have tried to do this on both the console and on xbox.com. When I try to log in to x box live with my original gamertag it says "your windows live id isn't valid. you need to associate a different
widows live id with this account". I cannot access the account associated with this gamertag because I don't know what it is...I've tried all of my accounts

Also, the gamertag on the X-Box One is different then the one on the website. Is this normal?

I changed my email on all my accounts including Microsoft and X-Box. I can log on to all of the accounts, but Microsoft Solitaire Collection still does not connect via X-Box Live.
