Gamertag didn't change.

A few hours ago I changed my gamertag. I have had a free change and have been checking different ones for a while now. I finally got one today that I wanted that was available and it said it changed successfully. I no longer have a free change, it says the
gamertag is taken and my gamertag is still the same. What gives?

Paid to change gamertag, but it didn't change

I paid to change my gamertag, and I see the charge in my account history, but it wasn't changed.

My gamertag was forcibly changed and now I have to pay for a new one.

If your gamertag is forcibly changed you should get a free gamertag change. I didn't waste $10 to have my gamertag removed.

It can sometimes take up to 24 hours for the change to take effect.It will probably be longer at the moment due to the amount of people changing their gamertags.

Should point out if this is the account in question you don't get a free change

It's only for system generated names

Yours isn't as it's mixed caps nor does it have an emotion and fluffy animal and number behind it

If this is the current name you picked for your free change then you just redownload it

Otherwise you don't get a free change and the past conventions don't apply to your name as yours is clearly a name you picked

As per the terms.and conditions it only applied to system generated names for free changes

If you read the correct artivle.it is only for new accounts or with system generated names

You aren't system generated you will have to pay

You can easily change your Xbox gamertag. If your gamertag was created for you when you initially signed up for Xbox (meaning you did not choose it yourself), you can change it one time for free. Additional Xbox gamertag changes cost extra.

Sometimes, it can take a couple of days for your gamertag change to take effect across Xbox services.

In the meantime, you can try restarting your Xbox, and removing and re-adding your profile to your console to see if the gamertag updates.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Profile & system > Settings > Account > Remove accounts.
Select Profile & System > Add or switch > Add new.

Happened with me a while ago,

Try restart your Xbox and if it still hasn’t changed, I clicked on the change gamertag option and typed my new name in and it swapped it immediately without asking for another payment.

I’m guessing that it bought the gamertag change but now wants you to type the same name in to actually use it.
