Gamertag changed by itself?

Not sure whats going on but about an hour ago my gamertag seemed to have changed on its own, since than ive changed my password for my account. My gamertag may have been mildly inappropriate so could microsoft changed my account on their end? i dont believe
i was hacked seeing as nothing else has changed on my account.

Was your gamertag changed automatically and costed money or do you want to change it but it cost money?

If it is because you want to change it but it cost money, it was your fault in the first place for violating Xbox's Terms of Service, next time make sure too choose a more appropriate gamertag.

Looking at your gamertag i'd say you've had a forced name change as your last tag was against the code of conduct.

To find out the exact reason check the email you should have got or post here forums.xbox.com/.../41.aspx

Forced Gamertag change

When a forced Gamertag change (name change) is imposed, the system will automatically pick a new Gamertag for the user. A forced Gamertag change is imposed when a Gamertag is determined to be inappropriate by the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement Team. Examples
of inappropriate Gamertags include names that visually resemble, sound like, represent, hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate any of the following:

• Profane words or phrases
• Topics or content of a sexual nature
• Hate speech (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, or religious slurs)
  
• Unlawful drugs or controlled substances
• Unlawful activities

if your not willing to pay the necessary money to change your Gamer-Tag. You Could always Sign Up On Xbox Live Rewards.



When you've racked up at least 5,000 Rewards Credits they'll be converted into your country's local currency and deposited into your Microsoft account. Then it's off to the Xbox stores,
where you can use your money to pick up your favorite Xbox One and Xbox 360 games, Avatar props and more but in your case your going to want to purchase a new Gamer-tag from the local currency deposited
into your Microsoft account. I thought you would find this information useful,

I was told by a chat representative you can petition online in the forums to get your old gamertag back mine was changed too but mine honestly wasn't a reference to drugs it was a reference to xbox live im highly upset this may sound lame but i played this
service everyday ditched friends and seriously devoted a lot of time to this and now theyve changed my gamertag from EyeDropLSD to clevercub whatever and it is jsut wrong they should at least have a warning saying that you must contact xbox live to confirm
the tag is legitimate or at least warn you to change it or they will auto change it im so angry idk what to do other than come to the forums xbox phone contact is offline right now this is terrible

 

Just in case your wondering what LSD stood for its LIVE SERVICE DAILY and its a joke to me that anyone would consider that a drug reference or otherwise

 

does not mater if that LSD stood for LIVE SERVICE DAILY the acronym of LSD is what got you the forced name change and there is no appeal to get it reversed you will just have to change it to something that is more appropriate to the live service sorry. also
the COC (code of conduct) that says what is and what is not allowed is the ONLY warning you get.

 

I'm so glad I found this thread. Just got off dark souls and I come back to my name changed from "Dew Meh Hard" to thinking I got hacked. Now they're charging me another $10 to change it? I've never seen such levels of stupidity in Microsoft
until now and I'm usually a very understanding/compassionate person but to change it to a lame tag such as that is astoundingly autistic when it's really not negatively effecting much of anything at all. is there any way of getting it back? if not I guess

Nothing stupid about it at all.Your gamertag violated the code of conduct that you agreed to when you started your account & you now have to accept the punishment.

There is no way to get that gamertag back,even if you could use it again you wouldn't get a forced name change next time,you would probably get your account banned.

If you honestly believe someone else had access to your account then you would need to phone support for your region & open an unautherised access case.

 

Same thing happened to me. You can change your gamertag once for free on the One, but it seems to have revoked my free pass and is now trying to charge me to change it. My original gamertag was obviously inappropriate, but it could at least just make me
change it, or change it temporarily until I can come up with something else. This is extremely frustrating and feels like I'm being scammed, especially because it changed my GT to something so stupid. Clearly the system is flawed.

 

The free change is only valid for the first 30 days of an account.

 

I just turned on my xbox one right now and the same thing happened to me. Honestly this is bull. I paid to change my name and for you to change it without any warning is really stupid. I think they should inform the player to change the name or at least
pick one, not just change the gamer tag without notice. This made me really mad that my 10 dollars was just wasted on xbox just so you could change my name to . The least you could do is give me a decent name.

 

as told before you do get a warning it is the code of conduct that says what is and what is not allowed on the service. FYI they USED to let you change it if it was against the rules, but too many people abused that by changing it to names that were just
as bad (some even only just changed the number/numbers in it but kept the offending word/words) now they just give you a random name to get the offending tag off of the service as quick as possible if you are mad about paying the change it blame those who
abused the free name change when told it was bad.

 

yeah but its still total bs i mean why did they even change my name ive had it for at least 4 years
