Gamertag Change

Hello all,

As I'm certain this has been posted about, ranted about, and general outrage expressed many times before, I will apologize in advance for the repetition. Anyhow, to make a long story short, I recently changed my gamertag. I paid the outrageous fee of
$10 and didn't complain, that's fine, whatever, I was forewarned. Upon changing it, not several hours later I'm thinking, I'd like to change the order of my tag from to EndingEthereal. This seemed minor enough to me. I've been a loyal Xbox supporter
for a decade, an Xbox Live subscriber for 8 years, purchased two 360's had two red rings of death, purchased an Xbox One, not to mention thousands in games and accessories.

That being said, I contacted MS support in hopes that I could make that change without paying another $10. There was a polite yet resounding no. Some explanation on how it was impossible to credit an account, it can't be done, no one in MS anywhere
has the authority, you're not getting past the supervisor of the chat session rigamarole. Now, I get policy and how the grunts are unable to go around it. I'm in customer service, I get it. And yet I somehow feel extremely salty after all the years of support
and money invested. It's not like I'm some guy that changes his name every other day and wants it done free of charge. I changed my GT ONCE in eight years, ONCE! I felt a little remorse over the name, wanted it altered slightly and conveniently there's nothing
anyone can do anywhere. What happened to customer service? I guess Microsoft doesn't understand the concept. I wonder if they take into account the fact that Sony is wiping the floor with them in console sales and that maybe, just maybe, doing the right thing
might keep a guy like me around for another eight years.

Xbox one followers privacy/spam concerns. END IT

Even if you change your Gamertag, you purchases and saves are still locked to your account. I could change my gamertag right now and I still have everything. It stays with the email address you signed up with, not gamertag.

 

Need your opinion about a couple of gamer profiles

It cost 800 Microsoft Points to change a gamertag, $10. Change your gamertag of the one you like to something else, and then change the other one to the gamertag you like. $20 investment and your playing on the gamertag you want to play on, and you have the achievements to show off your progression of games.

 

Only way to get a free gamertag change if they force you to change it.

 

Even if they give a forced name change, they will only give one if it violates the code of conduct and they will only give a randomly generated tag, not one of your own choosing. So the OP would still have to pay to get what he wants.

 

Smwutches, they used to force a change when you logged in and you got to pick what you wanted. My old gamertag went through it even though the original name wasn't offensive someone somewhere thought it was.

Anyway, when I logged in it informed me I needed to change the gamertag before proceeding and let me pick what I wanted and no random generated name appeared. May have changed cos that was back when Xbox 360 originally released so might be different now.

EtherealEnding, the charge is for administration work in updating the system as well as discouraging people from changing gamertags as often as they do on Skype/Live Messenger etc. It also makes people accountable and think about their new gamertag more
carefully. Yes it isn't a flawless system but it solves/prevents more issues than the charge causes.

 

I know that, but they changed the policy in the past few months. You're no longer given the option to choose a new tag. They just give you a randomly generated one now.

 

my account was hacked and I got it back but my gamertag was changed and my 34 dollars was gone also got banned pls help
