Gamertag change issue

I changed my gamertag after upgrading to Xone. I had all sorts of issues that were fixed, but I still have one problem: I cannot play 360 games with friends on Xone consoles, only those on 360 consoles.

So I'm trying to change my Gamertag, but I'm running into an issue. The 'Tag I'm trying to change mine to does not exist yet, to my knowledge, as I've tried sending it Friend Requests (error message, probably on account it doesn't exist), searching various
Gamertag Checkers (curiously enough, most of them said it was available while only one said otherwise), and by doing some profile searches on Google (sorry Bing). So why can't I change my 'Tag? It's obviously available, it doesn't violate the ToS, so what's
the issue? Bring me your knowledge, internet people and Microsoft, in the words of the great Phillip J. Fry, "Shut up and take my money!"

Since this appears to be a backwards compatibility issue have you tried filling out this survey (twtpoll.com/backwardcompatibility) ? It would help get your information to the proper
teams the quickest. I know it seems like a generic response, but it might be something to make sure gets to where it needs to go. Please be as detailed as possible when describing the issue: time it happens, games it happens on, codes you receive if any, etc.

Hey, Paiste! You will not be able to play in parties in game with users on Xbox One consoles while you are playing 360 games. You will need to create an Xbox One party on the console to be in a party with those users. You should be able to create parties
in game for 360 games with other 360 users by pressing the Menu and View buttons on your controller while in the 360 game to bring up the 360 Guide. Party options should be on the first slide there.

Let us know if you are still having issues after that explanation!

Parties are not the issue, it is simply that I cannot play a 360 game on my Xone with my best friend who is also on an Xone. I can only play with friends who work off of 360 consoles. BEFORE I changed my gamertag, my best friend and I could play Gears
2 and 3. Now we cannot. So it must be something to do with the gamertag change?

 

Hey, Paiste! That shouldn't affect it at all. I've ran into another user that is having the same issue in game with Gears 2 and 3 with their friends.

Is it that the party option in these games is now grayed out for you? That is what another user is running into, and if you guys are both doing it, I'd like to work with you to see if we can fix it.

 

Thanks for trying to help me The party options are not grayed out, they just don't exist for my Xone friend and me when we want to play Gears together. We text each other via our phones and we compared notes--when we are both online with Gears loaded,
neither one of us can invite the other to play and/ or party using the X botton ON GEARS--because neither one of us shows up on each other's list of friend to invite. It is like we don't exist to each other, unless we are playing an Xone game like Gears UE.
We also do not see each other come online and start playing Gears with the on-screen notification of 360.

And on the Home screen of XOne, we can see each other, no matter what game the other is playing, One or 360. I have always assumed the grayed-out party option was because we were in backwards compatibility. However, the Join option, even if not grayed-out,
does not work.

The only fix I can think of, for now, is to haul out my 360 console and put it back online...

issue. It would also rock if you passed the survey over to your friend so we have more information!

Thanks, I will do so and pass this along to him to do so, as well. I will have to pin his virtual body down to get the survey done, but I am sure I can hold him long enough to get the job done lol.

Just an update: I uninstalled and reinstalled all my Gears games, so did my friend. No change. I've been a little busy, didn't do the survey but tonight, a little light lit up in my head...at 54, it could have been the onset of dementia... Went back
to my 360 console. Sure enough, no best friend in my list. So....I invited him via my 360 and he accepted the invite, either thru his 360 console or xbox.com on his phone. And....all is fixed. I saw him on my 360, and then moved over to my One and we can
play backwards games again, both of us on our Xones.
