    Gamertag change from Xbox 360 is glitched.


    I recently changed my Gamertag from an Xbox 360 and have gone through hell trying to update my Gamertag on my Xbox One, after contacting support 3 times and trying many methods I ended up paying twice to fix the issue. I was told that I am an Xbox insider and that I should report this problem, so here goes.

    There seems to be an issue with the Xbox One updating the modern Gamertag after it is changed from an Xbox 360. While chatting with support they insisted that my Gamertag was changed successfully and that it should redownload to the Xbox One just fine, but no matter what I tried it kept downloading the profile with the previous modern Gamertag still showing. We agreed that this was really unusual since according to support the new Gamertag was displaying correctly for them, and when I personally checked online it displayed correctly for me too. So this is apparently an Xbox One console issue. I tried everything support recommended, I even had my Game Pass Ultimate canceled since that can apparently cause issues with Gamertags updating but to no avail. In the end, I gave the console a factory reset and paid a second time to have my modern Gamertag changed from online, keeping the classic Gamertag the same. I then set the Xbox One up like new and downloaded my profile and thankfully it worked. While I'm glad I fixed the issue, It's frustrating to have had to pay twice to get the modern Gamertag to update on the console, especially since most other platforms allow you to change your username for free. As for why this happened my best guess is that when I changed my Gamertag on the 360 I used 14 characters which the modern Gamertag changing system does not support, limiting it to 12 characters, so maybe the system ignored the change for the modern Gamertag, but if this is the case why did it still show correctly online for me and support? And presumably, people who still have only the classic Gamertag have their 13+ character name showing on the Xbox One.

    But i cant help xbox glitched i only checked availability and it changed i never wanted to change it in the first place now im forced to pay $10 for a name change
    Xbox didn't glitch. Awhile ago when xbox gave the opportunity for same gamertags with a number code after it, everyone had a free gamertag change. Unfourantaly if you want to change it back, you are going to have to pay $10 to change it back.

    If you have access to an Xbox 360 or Xbox One console, you can change your gamertag from there. ;)

    Spaced gamertags were created by people looking to steal OG Gamertags during the 360 era. They are glitched gamertags, basically cheating.

    Hi, I believe you can only change your Gamertag from your Xbox 360 console or through the Games For Windows LIVE programme - neither of which should give you errors when trying to change the Gamertag.
