Gamertag availability

I understand what you are trying to say about the space issue. User "tehcheez" on reddit does a real good job of clarifying.

"When you create a gamertag you can't create something that's the same as another gamertag, obviously. Normally spaces aren't counted as a character so if somebody has the gamertag Blue already you can't create B lue, Blu e, B L U E, or any other variant
of it.

While the glitch was going on spaces were counted as a character, so if somebody had the gamertag Blue you could create B L U E or any other variant as long as the glitch was going on. Once the glitch was patched you could still keep your spaced gamertag,
and Blue and B L U E are recognized as two different gamertags.

So now gamertags are beginning to be reset. Once Blue was reset to a generic gamertag, nobody can claim it because B L U E already exist. The systems is working properly and detecting that the gamertag Blue already exist.

To give you an analogy. Let's say your name is David and you go to a club. This club doesn't allow more than one person with the same name to enter. So only one Sarah, one Carl, and one David can be in the club. You enter the club, tell them your name is
David, and you get in. Later the bouncer gets drunk and somebody claiming to be D A V I D wants it the club. The intoxicated bouncer thinks to himself, "D A V I D and David must be different people, I'm going to let him in". The club owner realizes the mistake
the bouncer made so he puts another bouncer out front. Later in the night David decides he wants to leave the club and grab a bite to eat. So he leaves, comes back, but to his surprise he's not allowed in the club because there's already a D A V I D inside."

But what this guy is unaware of is that Blu e was created 35 days ago, and this explanation fails.

It still doesn't answer why a white space cannot be used, now.

When creating a gamertag, the only rules that it states are "You can use up to 15 characters: Aa-Zz, 0-9, and *single spaces*. It can’t start with a number and can’t start or end with a space." By these sets of rule I should be able to enter Da ftBadger
or whatever combinations, giving that I do not use Daft Badger because it is the only other variation in actual use.

Microsoft Xbox Engineers should implement a hotfix addressing this issue. Obviously, they are unaware of the problem. That or re-word the rules.

The system has always been that way

@XxWh1t3gh0stxX yes exactly. There should be a hotfix, but I doubt there will be. "Blue" was my #1 choice when trying to get one of the recycled gamertags. It's funny he used that example. As for "Blu e" I also saw that it was created 35 days ago. I have
no idea how he managed to do this when "Blue" had not been reset yet. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

Resets can occur randomly also but they are just smaller and quieter in hopes account sellers don't grab 1000s of names and sell them

This last reset was the last mass reset

People.got impatient on the amount of small resets

People don't realize that in requesting a mass reset that they will not likely have a chance of getting the name ether want because of people who create a count names to sel

 

It's better the previous way you had a fair chance at getting the name because no one can predict when the name was free

You had to check each time hence why it wasnt an on demand service

Or people just changed their name and freeing it up

You can always check randomly when the reset occurs on your name that you want
