Gamertag availability

So My main gamertag, this one, I wanna change but it keeps telling me "gamertag reserved" I also checked Xbox.com and it says taken. However, I made a brand new account on my xbox one and it said available and would let me change it. How come I can change
it on another account but not this one? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, so i was wondering, regarding gamertags (original gamertags in general), will those gamertags such as: Exile, Exiled, Enigma, etc.. most of those that have gold on them, and the original xbox gamer picture, with no xbox 360 play time, will they ever
be wiped like last time in January/February 2011? The accounts are possibly not being used at all, and if you can provide ANY insight as to if microsoft will ever be doing another wipe of most of the accounts associated with original gamertags, it would be
greatly appreciated.

Gamertag Availability?

That bottom part make no sense. If I send a friends request to a gamertag and it doesn't exist on Xbox Live then certainly it wont exist on GFWL either.

Both Xbox Live and GFWL share the same systems for things such as friends requests. Even Xbox.com sees them as the exact same thing.

 

Actually that depends by the gtag you are trying to claim if its still in use it will give you the"not available" notification. Use your creativity to get another gtag

 

What I meant to say was that the same Gamertag is available on the other and showing as unavailble on this one.

When I search the gamertag I want it says it is not in use, but then I got to change from my current it says its reserved.

You need to remember that the gamertag system doesn't recognize things like spaces or capital letters.

My tag is but daftbadger or DaftBadger would all be seen as the same tag.

Gamertags are also used on other services so if it says it's not available then there's nothing you or anyone else can do.

 

Well it was still showing available on the new account I made so I claimed it. Still confused to as why it wouldnt let me change it on this account but I'll just leave it as is.

 

I don't think the Mods understand what you are saying. That or they really can't answer the question. Maybe look at this from a different perspective. If the gamertag system cannot differentiate between Daft Badger, daftbadger, and DaftBadger then there
is something critically wrong with the way Microsoft has prorammed their database. Yes, a space is a character it is represented in many programming languages. If you couldn't have spaces then the various combinations of Daft Badger would conflict with the
other variations on XBox Live. Meaning everyone with a variation of the name Daft Badger would all have the same gamerscore and history. The only way to fix this issue is to submit an actual ticket explained in detail what is going wrong. Then whoever in IT
processes said ticket get an engineer in here and fix the problem. Regurgitation of the FAQ, or giving the "runaround" by taking and "educated guess" isn't going to solve the problem. You are going to have to replicate the problem and see it from our perspective.

 

I have the same problem you do Xbvx. I tried to change my gamertag to numerous different tags. I did my research before. Searched the names before the reset and saw they could possibly be up for grabs during the reset. Once the reset happened I could see
that the tags I wanted had been reset. I figured I would have to be lucky by waiting for these tags to be released to the public. I continuously checked these tags availability over a 24 hour period (yes, I was this desperate).

After time, I felt like something was wrong. Too many of the tags I had been watching hadn't been taken yet. I figured there had to be a logical answer for this. As a result, I tried to search the gamertags with spaces. Sure enough, almost all of the tags
I wanted came up with spaces in them. Some profiles had recent activity and others were dead profiles.

For example, the gamertag "Raw" was an gamertag registered on the original Xbox and was recycled in the reset. However, I later found "R aw" as an active gamertag that was created years ago.

But how could someone create a gamertag that was already registered in the system? The only solution I can come up with is that someone used a modded JTAG Xbox 360 to mod this gamertag. I believe there was a security flaw in Microsoft's system during the
Xbox 360 era. They were somehow able to use a space to identify their gamertag differently from the original gamertag.

Any thoughts? Some answers would be appreciated.

 

There wouldn't be any variations of unless you added numbers or letters.

The 3 ways I posted my gamertag are seen as the same gamertag so you wouldn't be able to have them.

It's always been like that since live started so there is nothing to fix.

I'm going to explain my situation the best I can. Anyways, Basically I made a second account to switch my GTs as soon as I found one I liked. While on the second account, I found a GT I liked which was "Quaint" all one word. I quickly rush onto this account
to see a message saying its reserved. I thought maybe I have spelt it wrong and it isnt available. I checked and it was, so at this point I thought I was just super unlucky and someone took it while I was switching accounts but that was also wrong. On the
second account, Quaint with no spaces and spelt as is says its available on the brand new account. I switched one more time to and it said the same thing "Reserved"and at this point I got so frustrated and without thinking I changed my GT on my second
account to Quaint. I was just confused because it stated you had to have a cumulative of atleast 1 year of gold and have a current membership and that account obviously didnt meet the credentials. Hope you all understand.

 

I don't think you fully understand the proccess

If you search for a name it doesn't matter if it looks like ngoc phi it will show

However when you click change and it says not available that's when it actually checks for different variations

It will see right then and there not when you enter your name that's is being used

 

I understand that much. I was just confused to as why it would take me to the confirmation of changing gamertag on one account and not the other. But thanks for all your replies!

 

@Xbvc ive been told that if you try to change your gamertag and it's available, that gamertag will be reserved for the first account that found it for 3 hours. If 3 hours passes without payment that gamertag will be up for grabs once again. Because you searched
the gamertag on your second account, it was reserved for your second account for 3 hours leaving your primary account unable to reserve the name. Once the 3 hours pass your primary account should be able to make the switch.

@Daft Badger yes I tried and failed hundreds of times before I found the "R aw" account that is still active.

I agree with you Badger. Because you have the gamertag "Daft Badger" people will be unable to change their gamertag no matter where they try to input spaces. "Daf tBadger" "Daft Bad ger" etc. None of these variations will be available because "Daft Badger"
is taken by you.

But what you are not realizing is that "Raw" was a gamertag created on the original Xbox however many years ago. This means any other form of "Raw" would be unavailable. This includes the gamertag "R aw" but somehow "R aw" was still created.

The only way that gamertag account could be made is if it fooled the system Microsoft used. The only way to do that is to use modifications. Such as a JTAG Xbox. If you don't know what a JTAG Xbox 360 is, Google it. It's essentially a modded Xbox. They played
pirated games and we're able to mod various other things. Remember all of the Modern Warfare 2 and all of the hacks? These hacks were provided with a modded JTAG Xbox.

I believe a modded Xbox was used to create various OG gamertag accounts by adding a space and having Microsofts system see the space as a different character, not a space.

For example, the person who modded the gamertag has it input at "R aw" but the Microsoft system saw the gamertag registered as "R2aw"

Microsoft support verified that this is an actual possibility.
