The email account is "hotmail" which no longer exists. Changed the gamertag name on the PC, won't change on the XBox.

    obsolete email account

Well, now you have two accounts: you cannot transfer or merge two accounts of any kind. Sorry. All you can do for the old one is call support and go thru the account verification process. And be warned: it can be a real _ _ _ _ _. You can use the phone
or email. I suggest you do the latter...that way you can research the answers.

They ask basic stuff like name, address, phone, etc. And some odd stuff like the IP address. The problem is that I imagine you no longer remember most of it. One of two outcomes will happen: (1) You will answer the questions to MS' satisfaction (this
is the _ _ _ _ _ part!...not to your satisfaction) in which you can give them any email you wish and they will send you a password-reset link and you can gain access to the old account. Or...(2) You won't answer the account questions and then your old account
    is gone sure enough. "

I know all this because a few years ago I had the same exact problem with my mother's account. The good news in case #2 happens is that you can try and try again...it took me some 6 months and just about as many email forms to satisfy them. Remember, you
cannot merge the old and new account nor transfer gamerscores, achievements, or the Live sub. No need to beg for it. Nor does MS keep your password.

tnat is the only way to get your password reset

if you used randomized info then no it will be next to impossible

next time use REAL info or least keep it upto date

you can always try the answer.microsoft.com forums

the MS accounts team are the only one who can reset the password and you do need to validate who you are

and accounts cannot be transfered between people FYI

You can reset the password by going to
    account.live.com/password/reset
and answering questions which should be easy... but if not, go on to
http://account.live.com/acsr and complete the questionnaire for a password reset.

Once you have done that, then you will have the password, and will be able to go into Internet Explorer on a PC (or Safari on a Mac) to get to
http://account.live.com, sign in there, and then choose Update Email Address to replace the obsolete address.

If your One Drive is part of a different account, you will not be able to merge it. I would suggest attempting to sign in at https://account.microsoft.com with your old obsolete
    email address and password
