Gamertag and the tags...

I was in the process of creating an account for my sister and when I got to the username part, no matter what I did I got tags at the end. For example, my username is gamblefied and nobody has anything close to but if I were to try and put her user as "g amblefied" or "gamble Fied" it adds #7188 or something similar afterwards. I thought spaces and capitalization actually mattered??? Sorry if I'm just stupid but I don't think gamertags were intended to be that way.

If the tag you are using here is your gamertag it is not an auto generated tag that is a custom tag.

Your tag has to be a system assigned tag. If that is your gamertag it doesn't appear to be a system assigned tag.

The system doesn't see things like spaces are capitalization as making a gamertag unique. So if someone does have the tag with a different space, it's still considered taken.

And doing that results in a banned gamertag (gamertags cannot be sold), so there was no real point to releasing tags. Banned tags are never removed from the system, same as gamertags that are abandoned. Why bother releasing them?

Not all games have been updated to work with the new gamertag policy. So any tags with a special character will not show a new tag, but your account will keep your old tag as a "classic" gamertag for use in those areas.
