gamer tag randomly changed. I cannot change it back.

Yesterday myself and my friend were playing co-op on COD Ghosts. He signed in and we played and everything was fine. Today I get on my xbox one and my xbox one recognizes me and everything. but now the gamer tag associated with my account is not my gamer
tag. I attempted to change it back to the original gamer tag. the xbox one will not allow me to change my new gamer tag to the original.

Help with changing gamer tag

i want to change my gt to TidalSnow but someone else has already got it and I don't want to replace one of the letters with numbers so if someone could suggest how I change it up a bit to use it that'd be great.

I've tried it with a space between as Tidal Snow but someone's got that too.

It looks as though you received a Forced Name Change. This happens if your tag has been reported to enforcement for being against the ToU and CoC of the Live service. If this is the case you will need to pay $10 to change it to something else.

To add to what onyx told you, if you continue to register names against the COC, or try to register a variation of the name that received the FNC, it can result in the account receiving a ban.

You get a free gamer tag change if you were given a randomly generated gamer tag when you first set the account up.

If you got to pick your own gamertag at the time you set your account up or if you changed it from the randomly generated one then you would have to pay for a gamer tag change.

You can only change it if you were given a randomly generated tag and are changing that tag. If it was a name you did choose at one time, you cannot change it for free.

You can try to get a rep either on chat or via phone and attempt to sort this out with them. It is unlikely that this will be changed back as that tag was flagged for a change. In the forums we cannot assist with a gamer tag change.
