    Help with changing gamer tag

    i want to change my gt to TidalSnow but someone else has already got it and I don't want to replace one of the letters with numbers so if someone could suggest how I change it up a bit to use it that'd be great.

    I've tried it with a space between as Tidal Snow but someone's got that too.

    Hey there

    Welcome to the forums

    The only way you can get a free name change is if your Gamertag Violates the
    Xbox Live Code of Conduct    , and it has been reported to the Xbox Live Policy and Enforcement Team (Otherwise known as XBLPET).

    Looking at your gamertag, it does not violate the Code of Conduct, nor Terms of Use. This means you will have to pay £8.00 (UK Currency) to change your Gamertag.

    I'm afraid you are wrong there, it has been changed so that even a forced gamertag change will not result in a free gamertag change. It will change the gamertag to an autogenerated one and if you want to change it you will need to pay the same price to do
    so.

    Is your actual name "John Hanes" if so you do breach the code of Conduct but the bad news is that WPAK is correct, it will be changed by the enforcement team to an auto generated one and then you will have to pay to change it to one you want, so the answers
    is yes there is no free gamer tag for your account as you've used your one free one. Sorry your going to have to pony up the £8 to change it.

    @super - having your name in your gamertag is not recommended, but is not a violate of the code of conduct.

    G. Protecting your account and personal information

    •Protecting your account information is extremely important; do not give out your personal information, including but not limited to: phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, etc.

    You may think this is just advice in the code of conduct but it says "do not give out your personal information" so by adding this to your gamer tag you are actually breaking the code.

    The next line below that states:

    Use discretion when deciding to share your name and location in your profile and when recording or sharing content you create. If you wish to share any other personal information with another player, please do so by a non-public method.

    So it's not against the code to share your name, it's just not recommended.

    Hey there,

    Thanks WPAK- I never thought that that's what they have done, now I know Gamer Tag Change :)

    Also, I have looked at the Code of Conduct, and agree that it is allowed to share your name . After all, it says on your gamer profiles 'Name'. If you wasn't allowed to share your name, it wouldn't have that option to put your name on your profile.

    I also think this thread is starting to get into an argument :/

    I'm going to assume that what is going on is that you were issued a forced gamer tag change since the gamer tag may be deemed offensive. A forced gamer tag change can result in not being able to post on the forums until that gamer tag is changed.

    Swapping gamertags

    Gamer tags are tied to accounts and can only be changed when you go through the process to change the gamer tag. No one can give you a gamer tag to assign to another account.

    So, neither you or as you stated, "people threating to take the tag as soon as it is chnaged" can take that gamer tag.

    The gamer tag won't be made available right away if you change the gamer tag on that original account.

    Why did my gamer-tag change? It really didn't offend nobody ( BIgBOyLuvMiLPhz )it was a funny gamer-tag to make people laugh and this was my first time actually getting reported. My friends gamer-tag were funny but when they got reported they had to change
    there gamer-tag to something else or they couldn't play live at all and you gave them a (FREE GAMER-TAG CHANGE), how come I cant get that opportunity to change my gamer-tag?

    the free gamer tag change was only allowed when your gamer tag change was forced. People abused this by reporting gamer tags that people wanted to change so once a force change was made they then changed it again to what they wanted for free. Because
    of that abuse of the system all game tag changes now cost even if a force change has happened.
