hi my names keith but my Xbox name I go by is Xunoi. For years I have waited for a name I chose a long time ago on mojang Minecraft to become available on Xbox and it has never done so. I only feel this hurts because the gamer tag isn’t even being used
and it’s been years. I really hope I can have the gamer tag because as a kid years ago I loved the name and it started my YouTube channel. Hopefully one day I can have it and this can be something Xbox looks into.

i have realised that my email address name changed from *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. *** to *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***. Still the same account but when i made the change, i could no longer use the charlisard gamer tag as it was associated with the original name. So then i had to change to
the Coppperclouds tag. reeeally want the Charlisard tag back, any ideas? can someone check which e mail is associated with the Charlisard tag who works for microsoft? I have checked the profile on another site, and it shows up as having played on destiny and
arkham asylum, which were the only games i played at the time, so i'm sure it was my account. Any help please

Unfortunately the only way to get the tag is if the original owner changes the tag to something else or they do not sign into the account for 5 years (starting in 2016). There is no other way to get the tag.

It still shows up an as account. So if you look it up and the account is the one you used to use, you would need to be able to sign into that account and change the name in order to free it up for use. Otherwise, if you look it up and it looks like it is
someone else, then there is no way to use it.

Every few years, Microsoft have been known to release inactive Gamertags, however, requests to release individual ones is not something that is actioned on. There are several factors that go into it, from having zero purchases on the account and not being
logged in/have had no activity at all for a certain period of time, every 5 years. The last mass deletion was back in August 2019, according to

an article I found.

Meanwhile, for now, if you want to change your GT, you'll have to be a bit more creative!

That article you linked is well out of date.

It's 2 years now.They changed the policy in 2019 so the earliest a unused tag would be freed up is 2021.

Due to this there wont be any more "mass releases" of unused gamertags.

If the system says a tag is taken, then it's in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers. Keep in mind that the tag system is in use on other Microsoft services. The system also doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So while you look up
"gamertag" and it doesn't show, it may actually be in use as "gamer tag".

There is no way to request a specific gamertag, but with the new gamertag policy, you can use a tag even if someone else has it. https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/account-profile/profile/gamertag-update-faq

Microsoft are likely to not disclose when Gamertags will be released in future, but keep your eyes out via Xbox Wire or Major Nelson.
