Gamer tag and account

hi, I recently changed my subscription to Xbox live and bought a 3 month gold pass, I put in the code which it accepted but then gave me a new gamer tag and the home screen everything is American and offers in $ not £, I have checked the email address and
it is definitely the right one for my normal gamer tag and account any advice?

So, how many of you are 10 year Xbox Live gamers?

I started with the xboxlive beta with the headset and MotoGP disk, but I currently have a new different gamer tag due to my associated Hotmail account going inactive, due to not logging into email, and thus preventing me from renewing the live account. I had to create a new account while I went through the steps of recovery for the Hotmail address. Once recovered, I simply stayed with my new gamer tag... Now associated with the old Hotmail account. :-(

You must have signed-in an incorrect Microsoft Account Email thinking that the email that you have signed-in is the correct one. If you can still sign-in your Gamertag or Xbox Live Profile to your console, you may be able to locate the true Microsoft Account
Email that is associated to your Original Gamertag:

For Xbox 360: Go to: SOCIAL > CLICK YOUR AVATAR > CLICK TO THE RIGHT. This will prompt you to your profile's Gamerscores, etc. and the Microsoft Account Email.

For Xbox One: Go to: SETTINGS > ALL SETTINGS > ACCOUNT > SIGN-IN SECURITY & PASS KEY.

I agree with Phoobee on this. Xbox Support can be able to search the account by the gamertag and they can try to verify the account. Hopefully they can verify it and find out what the email address is to your account.

Gamer tags are tied to accounts and can only be changed when you go through the process to change the gamer tag. No one can give you a gamer tag to assign to another account.

So, neither you or as you stated, "people threating to take the tag as soon as it is chnaged" can take that gamer tag.

The gamer tag won't be made available right away if you change the gamer tag on that original account.

try changing the gamer tag on the old account then you should be able to use that gamer tag on your new account.

There is no way to delete a gamer tag. You can pay to have it changed, but deleting the Microsoft Account will not delete the associated gamer tag and will only make that gamer tag inaccessible since there will no longer be a supporting Microsoft account.

Yes they were live accounts that's why they had gamer tags. A few years ago you can set up a gamer tag on the Xbox without the link to a Microsoft account so how do you recover these old gamer tags without a Microsoft account?

The xbox feature is part of your Microsoft account. Not all accounts have a gamer tag, but all xbox accounts are part of the Microsoft account. The gamer tag which is not a required feature of the Microsoft account is so that gamers can represent themselves
in a public manner to other gamers without revealing their actual account (which is the account email).

The gamer tag is not part of Microsoft security in any form, it may help you recover a lost account but just having a gamer tag will not give you access to or is part of the security for a Microsoft account. I did Xbox support for three years, I helped
recover many accounts while customer support was able to do that. I have never heard of a secondary gamer tag before. The only way to recover the account now is through the compromised account link listed above.
