Gamer-tag accidentally changed

Hello, my roommate just purchased an Xbox One today. He is not very tech savvy and asked that I help him out. After setting things up for him he had to go to work and since I helped him he let me play while he left. I was playing on a guest account and thought
that I could change the Gamer-tag for the guest, so I went in and it ended up changing his Gamer-tag to something I had picked, (which happens to what I want for my self) I messed up big time because now it wants to charge him $10 to change it again. Can I
please ask that his gamer tag gets changed to something generic with the option of letting him choose a name for himself, he should not have to suffer for my mistake.

i want to change my gt to TidalSnow but someone else has already got it and I don't want to replace one of the letters with numbers so if someone could suggest how I change it up a bit to use it that'd be great.

I've tried it with a space between as Tidal Snow but someone's got that too.

Sorry but you will have to pay to change it,you will not get a free change unless the tag violates the code of conduct & then it would be a randomly generated tag.

You're going to have to give him $10... well, you don't "have to", but if you're a decent friend you would do that.

 

First of all I know getting upset will do nothing but I am going to do it anyway. HIS ACCOUNT WAS BRAND NEW, I only made an account to try and save him, meaning I am brand new too. There was never any sort of warning about only getting to change it once.
Nor was there a warning to say that i wasnt changing the the guest account gamer tag. How are BRAND NEW people to the xbox community suppose to know this. I would gladly obliged to the $10 fee had I known about the rule. Its your fault for not making it more
clear. I want this fixed!

 

No one here works for microsoft, no one here can give you a free change.

It is clear that you get one free change when creating an account.

As the others have said, put your hand in your wallet and fix your mistake on your friends account.

You may also want to get him to read up on account security too to stop you accessing his account again.

One free GT change and then a charge thereafter, there is absolutely nothing else to tell you regarding this situation regardless of it being accidental or not .

No real tech savv needed....... Answer the on screen questions, select a name and bingo......

Why not just ask what name "HE" wanted at the time. "He" was in the same house right?

Just fess up to your roommate, tell him you will transfer the $9.99 to his account to allow him to chnage his gamertag to 1 of his choosing.

 

Support lied to you. They seem to do that when they don't have an answer for someone and just want to get off the phone.

If the account was brand new, why don't you just keep that account and update the info, then have your friend create a new account?
