    Hi,

I just got a new Xbox One which I purchased a used game for. The game had the previous owner's gamertag and now that gamertag seems to be attached to my Microsoft email. Here is my question.

How can I change the gamertag to one I create and remove my email from the other gamertag so that I can use it on my own?

I hope that clear. The tag "" belongs to someone else. I want to change it.

    Thanks for the help.

    :)

Microsoft accounts are a bit tricky and confusing. Please don't post any email addresses or personal info in the forums.

Each Microsoft Account will have it's own unique sign in email address and gamer tag.

So, the gamer tag you used in the forums looks like one of the default gamer tags the Xbox system ties to the account. So even though this gamer tag is unfamiliar to you or not the one you were expecting, it's tied to the account you signed in with here.

In the upper right hand corner of the page you should see your gamer tag and when you click on your gamer tag you should see the name on the account plus the sign in email address for the account.

You may want to make a note of that information.

If that email address that you see on the account is yours, then you've created a Microsoft Account already. And you can change your gamer tag once for free.

Next, on your Xbox One, go to Settings > Account > Sign in, Security & Passkey

That will show you the sign in email address for the account you're currently signed into on the Xbox One.

Here's where things get a little tricky. Since you bought the Xbox console from someone, technically the account on the Xbox is not yours. It belongs to the account owner.

If you start making purchases using his account or redeem codes for money, games or subscriptions. You're attaching that to his account.

If he decides to change the password on the account, it will lock you out of his account and then he will have access to the items and content you put on his account and you can't get any of that back.

Any games purchased digitally with his account, remain tied to his account.

So double check and make sure you're working with an account that you created and that you have control over before you start making purchases or adding stuff to any account just yet.

Please post back if you have questions. If you want to contact Xbox Support, I will post the info below.

    Changing Gamer profile

You have an Xbox Live Gold membership on the account you're posting on, so that wouldn't be the issue. Can you check your privacy and online settings (see the
My Account link --> Privacy and Online Settings) and verify all of your necessary settings are 'allowed'?

Which mode are you using to create a room, by the way? Most online multiplayer in FIFA is just matchmaking.
