Gamepass on PC Install Error 0x80073CF3 After Reformatting Former Install Drive

Hey all,

Not sure what else to do with this one.

I had previously installed a couple of games (Deadfire and Spellforce III if it matters) on a hard-drive under a different administrator account.

For unrelated reasons, I ended up having to make a new Admin account; blow away the old Admin account; and re-format the drive those games were installed on. The issue, I think, is that I reformatted the drive but did not uninstall the game from the Xbox app beforehand.

Now, any time I try to re-install those aforementioned games, I get install error code 0x80073CF3 on either the re-formatted drive; or any of my other drives.

I have tried the app troubleshooters for both Xbox and Microsoft Store.

I have cleared the caches of both apps as well.

I have reset both apps.

I have re-installed the MS store via powershell.

The apps are not listed either under the Settings > Apps & features; or under the old Programs & features applet.

My *guess* is that the game has saved some sort of token or something somewhere in C:\Windows or wherever the app/Store save such things to and I assume deleting that would fix the issue...but as yet, I have not found where this might be.

Any suggestions about how to proceed?

Also, side-gripe to Microsoft -- using the Xbox console name at the fore of your Gamepass service for PC may make sense from a branding perspective, but it makes troubleshooting way more complicated because there's no way to easily filter out the Xbox consoles from the service. Food for thought.

Before trying which solution, I ask you to check if your windows are updated to the latest version 21H1, check this by following the instructions below: Go to settings>System>About. If not, update it using windows update.

*If your updates are up to date, please follow the procedures below.

*Follow each step in order, even if you've already done it, do it again, please.

Solution 1:

Open RegEdit as an administrator and delete the following Services:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet]

PC reboot

Install gaming service like you would normally

Solution 2:

Go to your windows settings, go to the tab>applications and resources>Search for Gaming Services, click on it, go to advanced options, and tap repair.

Solution 3:

Launch PowerShell as an administrator and enter “get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers”

In the same powershell window, enter "start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN"

Solution 4:

Download the Create Windows 10 installation media application from the link below, at the end of the download run the application, and then follow the instructions given by the program at the end click on upgrade. Rest assured none of your files will be lost, this is a system restore that will try to fix this error.

I think a few others are having the same problem when installing The Outer Worlds, maybe try to re-install it?

Same error here, also not fixed after following all instructions you linked. What is it with these gamepass for PC games not installing correctly, ever? I've had the literal same exact error from trying to install VAMPYR before, all the way back at the
launch of gamepass for PC, and just now trying again, it still has this error. Fix your goddamn service already.
