Gamepass Games Crashing - Chivalry 2 & Sea of Thieves

    Hi Ceejay91x,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It seems like you've already taken several steps to troubleshoot the crashing issue with Chivalry 2 and Sea of Thieves. However, the problem still persists. Here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you could try:

    1. Verify Game Files: For both Chivalry 2 and Sea of Thieves, use the respective game client (Steam or Microsoft Store) to verify the integrity of the game files. This will ensure that any corrupted or missing files are identified and re-downloaded.
    2. Run Windows’ Program Compatibility Troubleshooter

One reason your app fails to launch and Windows displays a 0xc0000005 error is that your app isn’t compatible with your operating system version. You may be trying to launch an app designed for an earlier Windows version.

In this case, use Windows’ Program Compatibility troubleshooter to find and fix your app’s compatibility problems.
      1. Right-click your app on your desktop and choose Properties.
      2. Access the Compatibility tab and choose Run compatibility troubleshooter.

      1. Allow the troubleshooter to detect and resolve issues with your app.

3.Fix the Application Error 0xc0000005 by Repairing the App

Sometimes, an app doesn’t launch because the app itself is faulty. In these cases, you can try to fix your app’s issues using Windows’ repair option. This built-in Windows feature allows you to repair broken apps on your computer.

    1. Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
    2. Select Apps > Installed apps in Settings.
    3. Choose the three dots next to your app on the list and select Advanced options.
    4. Select Repair on the following page to begin repairing your app.

4.Use the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool

Your computer’s RAM issues can cause your applications not to launch. This is because your apps store their temporary data on your PC’s volatile memory, also known as RAM, and these memory issues can cause your apps not to store their data.

You can fix your machine’s RAM issues using the built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic tool.

    1. Open the Start menu by selecting the Start button or pressing the Windows key, find Windows Memory Diagnostic using the search box, and launch the tool.
    2. Select Restart now and check for problems (recommended) in the open dialog box.

    1. Let your PC reboot and allow the tool to detect and resolve your memory problems.

5.Scan Your PC for Viruses and Malware

A virus or malware infection can cause Windows and your installed apps to malfunction. Your app not launching and displaying a 0xc0000005 error may be the result of an infected computer.

In this case, remove any viruses or malware from your PC using the built-in Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

    1. Open the Windows Security app on your PC.
    2. Select Virus & threat protection in the app.
    3. Choose Scan options on the following page.
    4. Enable Full scan and choose Scan now.

    1. Wait for the antivirus to finish the scan.

6.Fix Your PC’s Corrupted System Files

Corrupted system files can break your PC’s various features and even cause your installed apps not to launch. This is because a corrupted file doesn’t let your operating system run correctly. This may be why you’re having trouble launching your app.

In this case, you can resolve the issue by fixing all the corrupted files on your Windows installation. Use Windows’ built-in SFC (System File Checker) tool to do that.

    1. Open Start, find Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
    2. Choose Yes in the User Account Control prompt.
    3. Type the following command on the CMD window and press Enter: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    1. Use the following command to begin scanning and fixing your broken files: sfc /scannow
    2. Give your PC a reboot when you’ve fixed the faulty files.

    7.Deactivate Data Execution Prevention (DEP)

Data Execution Prevention is a security feature on Windows that prevents damage to your PC from malware and other malicious attacks on your PC. It does this by blocking out specific memory regions so that code cannot be executed from those locations, which in the absence of DEP, would be used for buffer attacks.

However, the only problem is that it can sometimes prevent the smooth functioning of some programs as well. While we don't recommend this as a solution for the long-term, see if you can get rid of the Error Code 0xc0000005 on your Windows by turning off the DEP for a while.

Here's how you can get started:

    • Head to the Start menu search bar, type in 'cmd,' and run the command prompt as an administrator.
    • Type in the following command in the cmd and hit Enter:

      bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

8.Check Your App's and PC Version and Compatibility

One of the more common reasons for getting hit with the 0xc0000005 error is when your computer cannot process the files or settings necessary to your PC. While the causes of this can vary, a common one is that you've been using an outdated version of the app.

In fact, if you're using the app for the first time, the tool might be completely incompatible with your operating system.

Here's how you can check your PC's version:

    • Press the Win + I shortcut to launch Settings.
    • Click on About.
As soon as you do this, the Windows Device specification will be launched.

Similarly, to check the app's version, follow the steps below:

    • Head to the Settings menu, and select Apps > Installed Apps.
    • To check the app's version, click on any specific app.
    • If it's a Microsoft app, click on the Settings option (three dots) next to it and select Advanced options.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, if you have any questions, please feel free to leave us a message.

    Xbox game pass

I think it is because you are trying to download Sea of thieves instead of the anniversary edition.

    Try this:

Open the Microsoft Store(No the gamepass app), then search for Sea of thieves: Anniversary Edition and try to download that.
