Game tester positions

Hi i am intrested in becoming a games tester for microsoft on xbox one and wanted to know if it is possible to be placed on a list for testers, i have been using xbox since they originally came out and have tested games in the past and really wanted to get
back into it.

Becoming a game tester

I've been looking around on the web to see if there are any video game tester positions open but I can't seem to find any. Does anyone know where there is a website that I can go to and see if there are any game tester positions open.

How to become a QA tester

Ignore the naysayers. I know quite a few people who have started off in QA Testing. They worked very hard in order to stand out and eventually moved on to much higher paying jobs within the same company (still game stuff). Some of these people who started off as QA testers at Microsoft/Xbox (in one example a friend of mine was a QA tester for the original Halo, among other games) have ended up working in more interesting positions in Operations, etc.

QA Testing is actually one of the view positions in the game industry where going the extra mile (working hard and being good at your job) will make you stand out above the rest, leading to better rewards (either money or just better positions being offered).

Although you need to understand that QA Testing is considered the bottom of the game industry hierarchy. I would say that if you are young, 20'ish years or younger in age, that QA testing is not a bad start in the game industry.

The job of game tester is a very tedious one, where most of what you do is stress test a small part of the game over and over for a few hours at a time, and very little actual playing of the game. If that's what you want to do,
then good luck to you.

 

I think people see game tester and think they are going to be playing pre-release titles all the way through.

The reality is not as fun. Imagine running the same conversation in Mass Effect for nine hours a day.

You can get good money if you are willing to put the time in but your sanity will suffer.

 

The best way to test if you are up to the job, go out and buy a game you have no interest in whatsoever, something you would never want to play ever.

Then sit and play the first 3 minutes of that game over and over, eight hours a day for a month.

If you`re still sane a month later you have found your career path.

 

Man, i don't think you wanna get into that. lol it's not all rainbows and butterflies like you think it is.

 

It was a job I wanted as a kid, but when I heard it was nothing but the same portion of a game over and over, I figured it wasn't really worth it at all.
