Game Sharing With My Brother

I have question regarding game sharing, so what me and my brother are trying to do is play smite together. Smite is a free game which is already downloaded into my console. Apparently it is currently under ownership of my brothers account which is on my
console as well as well as his console. His console is in his house at the moment, so we are trying to play together, but I it keeps giving me the notice owner must be signed in. Currently he is the one with Xbox live but I'm still able to use Xbox live
on my Xbox with my account, as long as he is signed in on his Xbox. We can play any disc game together, and I understand the rules of game sharing with digital games, but does it still matter if the game is free? Should I delete the game on my Xbox and redownload
it through my account?

Smite is free to play with gold membership. Since your brother has the gold membership and you don't he is able to play the game and you are not.

You need to set your xbox as your brother's home xbox and vice-versa.

After that you should be able to play together.

You can't game share "multiple games", as setting a console as your (or your brother's) Home Console shares all games you or your brother owns to that specific console.

Be aware that publishers can limit what exactly can be shared. Usually a base game should be shared to the console, however certain DLC and add ons can be blocked from being shared.

Also, ask your brother to sign in to your console and in the settings under "Personalization", make sure that your console is still your brother's Home Console.

Maybe your brother changed his Home Console without you knowing, and the existing games on your console "didn't get the memo" yet, and still start, however the newly added 2K20 game is shared to your brother's new Home Console?
