Game rights

Hello. Several months ago I purchased skyrim: special edition on the Xbox store. I haven't played it in a while so I thought I might revisit it. However, when I tried to play it I received a message saying that my game rights needed to be checked and that
if I had a physical copy to insert the disk or if I brought I digitally(which I did) to make sure I'm connected to Xbox live(which I am). Can I relieve some assistance with my problem as I have spent $30 on this game and would like to be able to play it.

[/quote]In that case, Microsoft/game developers/game publishers can take this policy and shove it straight up their backside. When I buy something it becomes mine. Video games are a piece of media, not a license like Windows 8 or MS Office. You have to be
clinically insane to think that a game developer has the right to restrict what you can do with YOUR property.

The concept is we don't own the right to the content on the disc we only have the right to play the game how its intended as we are being leased the game / renting the right to play it on a somewhat permanent basis. That's the claim.

The EU court has rejected this

Logically you can easily say this isn't right as with both DVD / film and Music they tried this claim as a way to resell the same content in digital form so people could use it on portable devices. The film industry is or was still wrestling with this idea
though ultraviolet the download system might have sorted it out to an extent. What was claimed was for Films you own the content but you cant break the DRM to access that content otherwise breaking the DRM is the illegal part as such. What was suggested was
authorised places to take films on DVD to pay a fee which would go the running the place and the studio etc to have that place then copy the film onto whatever device you wanted. Then each time you wanted it on another device you'd have to pay again. Obviously
this concept got laughed down very hard.

There're you're evidence towards a legal precedent for the license concept being wrong.

Also while we're at it TOU / EULA are not legally binding under EU law, and cannon over right EU laws or be a defence for breaking it.
