Game restarting when swapping controllers

We are very new to Xbox so I apologise if this has been asked before (have tried searching this forum & others on the web but could not find a solution).

When my son is playing he swaps controllers as he finds they get "sweaty" after a while however, when he does this the game tells him that the profile has been changed and the game re-starts... he finds this incredibly frustrating (he is only 10).

When swapping controllers he is simply putting the old one down onto the charging dock, pressing X to turn it off, picking up the new controller from the charging dock, pressing X on the new controller to turn it on and it tells him that the controller is
disconnected, please re-connect it, then when the new controller connects it tells him that the profile has changed and the game will re-start... (The game is Forza Horizon 4 as this is the only one he has played for the last few days since getting Xbox for
Christmas)

Can anyone help us to get around this issue? are we swapping controllers in the wrong way...?

So this will really depend on the game and how it handles the profile and controller. The method you follow should avoid the issue, in most cases, of turning the controller off prior to turning the new controller on, would avoid that issue and I'm surprised
to hear that it's not.

The other suggestion I would say is to turn on Co-Pilot mode. It's an accessibility feature they have to allow two controller inputs
to operate as one, basically. So two separate controllers posing as one input. It's a cool feature. That way both can be on and hot swap between them. Should work.

That's usually because they were all together in a lobby when they searched for the game and you can't swap teams in any game mode once it's started unless you restart and swap teams....

Surely this is a game problem, I have not had this with other games when I swap controllers?

Out of curiosity did the battery warning not pop up ?

I think this is issue happens in rare cases after swapping tiles, did that happen shortly before the problem in your games?

Essentially what happens is that a played tile gets swapped from a rack (when a move is played but not updated on the phone) and this then goes back into the "bag" and returned to the players when it should not.

A server patch has been issued which will stop the swap being possible. If you get into this situation you should get "Unable to play move" when swapping and a restart of the game should resolve everything.

Played tiles should never able to be swapped and we're continuing to work to try and resolve how this may be happening for some users, it does appear to be quite rare though.
