Game rentals through Xbox store

I think it would be great if Microsoft could implement game rentals through the Xbox store. There are several ways that this could happen while being beneficial to Microsoft and players alike.

*Create higher levels of memberships like platinum or diamond that can download and play a certain number of games per month, but the license to play expires after a month.

*Allow timed charges for a download that only last for a certain number of days and has to be renewed to keep playing.

*Set up a program that has a "Play per Day" system. This could either charge a card a small amount for each day a rented game is played or keep pre-paid credits associated with the account that allow a day per credit.

A system like this could allow players to sample a game they are unsure if they want to purchase or simply let people play a game in which they only want to experience the storyline, while allowing Microsoft and game developers to make extra money on a game
that may otherwise go unsold.

Can you rent games ?

Yes, you can rent video games at video rental stores, although online rental services are becoming more popular. Game Fly, for example, is basically the same thing as Netflix, except you're renting games through the mail rather than movies.

 

What are the ups/downs of NO used games?

There is the upside that if used games were non playable Microsoft could corner the market on game rentals if it were to launch a game rental app for Xbox Live.This could lure new franchises to Xbox because they would have the comfort of knowing that even
if their game flopped they would recover most of their losses through rentals.
