Game Pass: what does it offer? (Sorry, I’m new.)

i just purchased an Xbox One S, along with Xbox Live Gold, and Game Pass. I downloaded a game called Metro Exodus, one of the games offered in Game Pass. But my console says I can purchase it for a discounted price. I’m confused. I thought I have the game
already for free. Am I being naive? I’ve been playing it. If I haven’t purchased it, what do I have that I’m playing? What does paying for it do? And if I have to pay for games, what exactly does Game Pass offer?

Just a heads up....they're starting to add even more incentives like early access to Gears of War 5!

You can play the game for free while you have Game Pass. If you decide to cancel Game Pass or the game is removed from Game Pass, you will no longer have access to the game. But with Game Pass you can purchase the games at a discount so you actually own
them.

Ahhhh. “Forever” doesn’t exist. I misread a part of Smwutches’s reply. The game can be removed from Game Pass, and I lose it if I didn’t purchase to own.

Game Pass games are free to play while on Game Pass. Once it leavss you can longer play it. So, if you really love the game it is offered at a discount so you can own it without the need lf gamepass when it is renoved from the library.

So if I have Game Pass “forever”, I can play Metro Exodus-or any other Game Pass game I download-“forever”?
