The reason the child account is not able to buy it, is you are not giving the permissions to buy things under the privacy and online safety settings. When it says ask an adult this is why. If you go in the settings and set to allow for her to make purchases
then she will be able to buy the subscription. This is why we have adult and child accounts so Parents can monitor the child accounts closely.

Approve your child’s purchases on Xbox One

Keep Ask a parent turned on to require adult approval for things your child wants to buy in Microsoft Store, except what they get with gift cards or money in their Microsoft account. To make sure this feature is turned on, follow these steps.

1. Press the Xbox button
   to open the guide.
2. Go to System > Settings > Account >
   Family settings.
3. Select Manage family members and choose a child account.
4. Select Privacy & online safety > Xbox Live privacy >

Is your daughters account a child account under one of your accounts that would be the parent?

Another thing that may be happening is that since this is a recurring subscription it will require a debit/credit card to make the purchase through your daughters account.

They have ended up with our daughter having £10 on her account in error, a payment option on her account and very permissive capabilities

To be honest we are more frustrated and thinking it would be simpler and quicker to buy a Playstation.

It simply says the Privacy settings are incorrectly configured but does not say what in the settings is incorrectly configured and or what is preventing her accepting the offer. The article gets us to page but there is nothing obvious that you could link
to stopping our purchase.

Also, your answers send me round more of the labyrinthine Microsoft webpages. The navigation sending us back and forth between the US and UK webpages.

Specifically, on making the purchase.....

We followed the web links and tried the options on Privacy. Then we tried to purchase and again got that awful message.
So we attempted making different changes. Each change being more permissive are making us bend and contort the Privacy controls. The result is that we are giving her access and capability we don't want to give her. Simply to allow her to accept an offer
Microsoft is making.

Our conclusion is that the Family offering while a good idea is unreasonably complex and poorly designed in practice. Why do we have to find ways around the controls to do such a simple thing?

If we set her up with a separate account all over again we would have no problems. But we potentially lose so much potential protection and benefits.

And, most importantly, we are 8 hours into this process and no success. And seemingly no prospect of success

Should it be this difficult? How can Microsoft make it this difficult?
