Game Pass for PC games not updating properly

Hi, I have been seeing this issue where every time a game from the gamepass needs an update it downloads all the game again,

it doesn't doesn't matter the size of the update, for example, on the past days Halo infinite and Forza horizon 5 had small updates, like for example halo infinite today's update should be less than 1GB, but here I am waiting for the whole 48.6GB to be downloaded in order to play.

Now of course I need to download the whole game every time an update comes and it's a pain when you need to download 100GB every couple days, I've tried clean installation of games and windows, switch gamepass accounts and switch installation drive with no luck, it only happens with gamepass games, steam, epic, uplay and origin work just fine so it's not the drives or anything like that, anyone have had this issue and get it resolved?

Game Pass for PC games not updating properly

    Hi Jesse,

I did all the steps no strange scenarios there, everything seemed to work without issue, and when the store and the gamepass app returned I noticed I had an update for sable of aroun 600MB so I picked that one on the gamepass app and sadly it redownloaded the full 2GB of the game again, however I noticed that I had other applications from the store that needed an update, like the phone companion and an update for the language experience, I downloaded those from the microsoft store this time since those don't show up on the gamepass app and they only downloaded the full size listed on the store, only the update, I'll wait for another update on another game to confirm downloading via the store instead of the gamepass app but I think it's only an issue with the gamepass app

    again thanks for your input

Game Pass for PC games not updating properly

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

Since you've already started the update, I suggest you let it finish so as not to break the download. When it is finished then you can Try these methods to fix the Store one by one to see if one of them will solve the problem.

    Clear the Microsoft Store cache

    1. Press the 'Windows + r' keys and type 'wsreset.exe' (without the quotes)

    2. An command prompt window opens and then closes after approximately 10 seconds.

    3. The Microsoft Store then opens automatically. Check if it works properly again.

    To reset it:

    1. Open the settings by pressing the Windows + i keys

    2. Go to Apps> Applications and features.

    3. Select the Microsoft Store application and then click Advanced Options.

    4. Click the Reset button.

    5. Confirm the reset by clicking on Reset again.

    6. Go back to the Microsoft Store and check if it works properly again.

    Run troubleshooter

    1. Open Settings again (Windows + i)

    2. Go to Update & Security> Troubleshooting.

    3. Select Windows Store Applications and then click the Run Troubleshooter button.

    4. The utility will launch and check for problems that are preventing the Microsoft Store from functioning properly. If it detects anomalies, follow its recommendations.

    5. When the problems are resolved, close the utility.

    6. Go back to the Microsoft Store and check if it works properly again.

    Reinstall Microsoft Store

1.Open Windows PowerShell as administrator. To do this, right click on the start button and click on 'Windows Shell (admin)'

    2. To reinstall the Microsoft Store app, enter the following command (you can copy and paste:

    Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register '$ ($ _. InstallLocation) \\ AppXManifest.xml'}

    3. Go back to the Microsoft Store and check if it works properly again.

XBOX Game Pass on PC not Updating Games Properly

    Update :

It seems like any game that has under its title the phrase "Administrator Approval Required for Installation" will not update if it was download OK previously or install if unistalled.

Tested a few games and that is the common theme. Streets of Rage 4 for example has no warning and works fine.

...and yes my account is the administrator.

XBOX Game Pass on PC not Updating Games Properly

So the issue is Game Pass / Windows Store titles that require Admin Approval apparently do not like to install to a disk whose cluster size is higher then "default / 4k", my Shadow PC disk was configured higher then that and thus games wouldn't install /
update BUT the error codes gave no mention of any disc based problems.

    Solution is not mine and is below;

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowPC/c...urce=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Xbox Game Pass and "NTFS" error workaround

Edit: Big thanks to Auwolf for the workaround! I only dug into why it works and wrote the steps to perform the workaround.

For those of you who have been running into issues installing Xbox Game Pass games on your Shadow and you're getting an error:

"For this game, choose a drive that's formatted as NTFS" or error code 0x80073D13

The issue is that your Shadow's C drive has been formatted with a cluster size (byte allocation size) of something other than 4k (mine is set to 16k). XGP games require that the drive/partition you want to
install the game on has a byte allocation size of 4k (not sure why Shadow is setting it to such a large value). Good news is that there's a workaround that doesn't require reformatting or rebuilding of your Shadow PC.

(Caution: this is somewhat advanced, so if there's anything you absolutely cannot lose on your Shadow PC and you're not comfortable with making disk partition changes or you haven't done it before, contact
Shadow Support instead just in case).

The following steps will create a new partition (drive D) on your Shadow PC by borrowing space from its C drive. These instructions assume that you only have one drive (C) currently.

    1. Open the Disk Management app by pressing WIN-R and entering "**diskmgmt**.msc", then hitting Enter.

    2. Right-click the C drive in the grid at the top and select "Shrink Volume...".

    3. In the window that appears, choose the amount of space you want to shrink the C drive by. This will be the space you will allocate to a new D drive later.

    1. DO NOT choose the entire amount displayed in the "Size of available shrink space in MB" field. You want to leave Windows some breathing room. Enter a number that's half of the available shrink space to be safe, as long as it's enough to fit the game(s)
    you want to install.

    4. Click "Shrink" and after a moment your C drive will be a bit smaller and you'll notice a new "Unallocated" section of the "Disk 0" graph near the bottom.

    5. Right-click on the "Unallocated" space at the bottom right and select "New Simple Volume...".

    6. This will go through the process of formatting the unallocated space as drive D. Feel free to customize anything... just make sure that the "Allocation size unit" is either set to "Default" or "4k". However, it is safe to just "next" your way through the
    wizard.

    7. You now have a D drive. This will be where you'll install the XGP games:

    8. In the Xbox app, click your profile icon at the top and select "Settings".

    9. Click "General" on the left.

    10. In the "Drive selection" section on the right, click the "(C:)" dropdown and select "(D:).

    11. Try installing a game. It should now be successful.
