Game Pass expired, now a game I own on disc won't launch

I bought Doom Eternal on disc a year ago, for Xbox One X. For the last couple months I tried Game Pass Ultimate, but then let my subscription lapse. During the time I had an active Game Pass subscription, Doom Eternal was offered as part of the Game Pass collection.

The moment my subscription lapsed, Doom Eternal stopped working on the console. Now, even though I have the disc in the console, it won't launch due to a subscription error. I uninstalled the game, but that didn't help. When I put the disc in the console, I hear it read the disc, but nothing happens on screen--there is no way to launch the game.

I have also found that the drive won't auto-launch when I try a different game disc either.

Thank you for your reply. You are however mistaken. Doom Eternal has a single-player campaign mode that does not require Live Gold or any online connection. I've been using it for a year without a Live Gold subscription and it has been working fine.

There is an online multiplayer mode ("Battlemode") that does require Live Gold, but this is a deeper issue--the console is actually not recognizing discs at all.

Hey there!

I believe Doom Eternal is a Xbox Live Gold required for the game to work, I don't think it's a offline game?

Does it say somewhere in the case to say live is required or something like that?

Hello there,

Have you tried the offline mode to check if the game can be played offline?

If not, try to go offline and try again.

To do that, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.

Select Go offline.

To go back online, repeat the first three steps, and in step 4 choose Go online.

I'll recommend you do a power cycle to clear the system cache

- Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.

- Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 2 minutes.

- Plug the console power cable back in. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on and check if it's all good.

If that doesn't help, I'll suggest you try doing a factory reset keeping games and apps on your console. This will refresh the console and remove all potential bugs without deleting any game data.

- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

- Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

- Select Reset console.

- Choose Keep Games and Apps

Once that is done, you'll need to sign into the console using your Microsoft account credentials. If the issue is with your console, that should fix it.
