Game Ownership gone

My friend recently bought a Xbox one s and it had lots of games "ready to install", but he came to my house with his Xbox and all of the games are no longer there and even on the ones he had installed it would say he no longer owned
them.

Phil Harrison has made it quite clear on this issue. Basically used games are gone in a traditional sense.

That explains the mixed bag I've seen in relation to which games play, and which don't. Maybe we're using different interpretations of the term 'backwards compatible,' though. I guess I made the mistake of assuming that the new Xbox
would simply be able to run old games - that the console would simply have the tools to make the previous generation of games work. What you said is that the game is not backwards compatible, it feels to me like what you mean is that the
console isn't backwards compatible, and the publisher didn't want to produce a new version of the game for free.

I guess my level of trust for Microsoft just went down a couple notches. I used to genuinely like your stuff, these days I'd say that there simply aren't other options that I like better.

Did he actually buy the games or were they just on the console when he bought it? If they just happened to be on the console, then it sounds like someone else had used the console and left it as their Home console. He would only have access to the games
as long as it stayed that way. If the original owner changed that setting he would lose access to everything.

 

He bought it from Walmart with no other accounts on it.

 

Someone could have returned it and left it as their Home. The account wouldn't need to be on it.

Unless he bought the games or redeemed a code for them, he doesn't actually own them.
