I have a few games that I'd love to gift my son and I have'nt heard anything on it in a while. Was it all hot air?

You mean transfer ownership of digital games?

Any chance of that happening went away when MS were forced to make the u-turn on DRM due to all the whining that happened in the months before release

 

If you put your profile on your sons Xbox then he can access your digital games you can also share Xbox live if that's any help?

 

My son lives in another state.

 

The best solutions would to be either buy him a physical copy of the game, order online and get it sent to his address, or buy him a Microsoft cash card which he can redeem on his account and use to buy a digital copy.

 

You guys can home share. It's easy. You just need each other's info to login to your Xboxes and while on the other's profile, set as your home Xbox under Settings > My Xbox. You'll get his digital games and he gets yours. So you can surprise him because
any digital download downloads on the other Xbox automatically.

He said they're in different states not in the same home.

What you are suggesting probably violates the terms of service and would likely cause a ban for marketplace theft.

 

Go to CD KEYS. Com and buy a digital game and email him the code. It works I've done it.

Marketplace theft is a perma ban

 

As far as I'm aware, a gifting system has been on many's wish list for future Xbox features. Up to this day, nothing of the sort has happened.

 

@kanaye they did try and bring it in on xbox one but due tonthe massive petitions against allowing the drm which wouldve allowrd digital transfers they had to kill it in a massive patch

Sony even tried to suggest it but they were wait and see too

It worked out in sonys favor with rveryone jumping to ps4

 

You have game gifting on Steam and it works well. You don't need the DRM Microsoft was proposing to make it work.

How it works on Steam is that it is only at the point of purchase. Want to give away a game, you've got to decide when you are buying it.

It's not complete protection but does stop idiots getting tricked into giving away their game library at the very least.
