Game DVR isn't recording properly

    Game DVR isn't recording properly


    I've been trying to record game footage onto my HDD for a few days. It is all set up to record (I have tried 1080p, 4k and 4K HDR with the same issue with each) when i set the Xbox to record it starts counting with a total time of 1 hour, but after a matter
    of seconds (minutes if i'm lucky) it will finish recording without me telling it to stop recording. it has recorded at most for 18 minutes and at least less than 1 second. I've reset everything more than once, tried different games and tried reformatting the
    HDD.

    I have had issues with the Xbox before where any video saved was corrupt when saved onto the internal hard drive and would either only play audio or play nothing at all but it was absolutely fine on the HDD. It has an extended warranty which i sent it in
    before because of that issue and was fixed. I'm not sure what else i can do so thought i would come to the forums to see if anyone knows the problem or if there is anything I can try before i send it away to be looked at again.

    I tried recording at 1080 and it recorded for the full hour all 4 times so it does seem to be a 4k related problem. It is a shame because the quality difference is very noticable. I've been looking at getting a capture card for a while now and I think

    I got my Xbox back and they actually replaced the mainboard and the case. I stopped my whole account being an insider and tried it 7 times today and the most it recorded was 28 minutes, the least was 2 minutes so either my xbox is still faulty, or by the
    sounds of it it's a bigger issue. I will try to record in 1080 and see if that makes a difference

    The DVR function being used in this use case has nothing to do with Xbox Live. MS has never allowed a manually recorded video to external drive to be uploaded to Live servers or even edited on the Xbox. This has been the case long before the pandemic.

    I actually have an update to this post, I sent my Xbox away for repair in the end twice, the second time was because it still wasnt working and the company who provides the cover ended up having to speak to an advisor from Microsoft who confirmed it is
    due to Microsoft limiting DVR function due to workload so yes AuraWolf was absolutely right

    Hi.

    I could be mistaken but I'm lead to believe Microsoft has limited the functionality of DVR & recording features for the time being in order to save on the workload of the Xbox Live servers during this unfortunate time.

    I'm not 100% but I'm sure that's why the issue occurs.
