game downloaded on its own

ok so just a few mins ago the wifes xbox started downloading fallout shelter on its own, now i know a lot of you wil say its from game sharing but heres the kicker, my xbox is setup as my wifes home and hers is my home console, and neither one of us have
tried to download the game.... anyone know why this can happen? Do i have to worry incase xbox decides to buy games on my behalf?

I suggest you remove your wife's profile from the Xbox and add it again, when doing so you'll come across a screen where you can choose a security option, make sure you choose the "Lock it down" option.

 

Fallout shelter is a free game with gold and probably someone in your family using the account initiated the download (it takes only a few mins)

theres only me and my wife, no kids and no one else in the house, she was watching netflix at the time and like i said neither of us has tried to download any games, the last game download was by myself and that was dragon age inquisition about a week ago

 

If the console was used (or someone returned it), the original owner could have left the console as their Home too.

Of note though, games will sometimes automatically download during promotions like free play weekends.

 

Its set as my home console, never been out the house or used by anyone else...

I've never had any experience of another game downloading by itself in the years that weve had the xboxes, which I'm sure other games would have done this by now if they was allowed to download themselves, (not saying this isnt a thing, ive just never seen
or heard of this.. its also a free game so wont be on a freeplay weekend.

 

Has the console recenelty been turned off and on again or done updates?

 

did you happen to play the mobile version on your account by chance?

 

You can view the game using your account on your xbox and do the same using her account on her xbox to see if the box to install the game says "install" or "get"/"buy". install will show for a game that was purchased under your account and get will show
for games already purchased (even free games). That's the only other option i can suggest based on the replies so far.

As for the console purchasing games for you that shouldn't be an issue either. you should always set a pass code to prevent anyone from using your console to purchase games. Some people are fine with having their CC saved with no restrictions on purchasing
games but if it concerns you and your wife (which it sounds like it does) it might be a good idea to lock that feature down a little more than it is now. If the game did purchase itself that would be the first case of that happening that i have seen. Often
times i hear of kids buying games and add-ons even when the parent walked away for only a second. Without securing the purchase of apps/games it takes only a few seconds to purchase something with the stored payment method.

 

It gets turned off every night, and havent seen it do an update since the one that changed the dashboard layout even though i had 1 on mine a few days ago

 

She has it on her phone which isnt linked to the xbox or even microsoft

 

i'll have a check to see what it says when we put them on in a bit, the thing that gets me is if she purchases anything n hers it will auto dl on mine and vice versa and thats what weirding me out because it just started on hers only
