    I normally play my games digitally but for Christmas my son got Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville on a disc. I opened up the disc and put it into my Xbox One X running OS 10.0.18363.8124 and the disc drive makes a tiny bit of noise but didn't start
    installing. I pulled it out and held it just slightly in the drive so that I could hear the drive trying to grab it and then let it go and it made a little bit more noise but didn't start installing.

    I thought maybe I had a faulty disc so I stuck in Overwatch disc and it didn't boot up. Then I stuck in Xcom 2 disc and it didn't boot. Then I tried Kingdom Hearts 3 and it booted up and loaded the game. I removed Kingdom Hearts 3 and tried Plants vs Zombies
    again and it didn't boot. Next I tried a Blu-Ray disc to see if maybe my Blu-Ray reader is faulty, the blu-ray loaded instantly to the movie. I tried a DVD and it also loaded instantly.

    Then I took Plants vs Zombies and Overwatch to my upstairs Xbox One (it's a fatty one) which is also running OS 10.0.18363.8124. I stuck in Plants vs Zombies and it didn't install. I tried Overwatch and it won't boot either. Then I powered down both Xbox
    Ones, unplugged them from power and let them sit for several minutes. On my Xbox One Fatty I have a 2 TB external drive plugged into it so I also unplugged that. I plugged it back in, booted it back up and plugged back in the 2 TB external drive, it still
    wouldn't read the discs. Then I factory reset the fatty and added back all my accounts. I input the disc and it read it once and installed! I thought I was fixed, then I removed the disc and insert it again after it had installed and the game doesn't load
    up. If I click on the installed game it says to either buy it digitally or insert the disc (the disc is in the drive).

    I did the same thing to my Xbox One X downstairs. I factory reset it, removed the 8 TB external drive and the 4 TB external drive, got it booted back up, added back the accounts and insert the disc, and nothing, it didn't load or do anything.

    I read online that running them in Instant-On can mess with discs so I turned off instant-on on both Xbox One's and hard reset and neither one will read game discs still. Keep in mind, both will read DVD's and Blu-Ray movies just fine so the laser's seem
    to be working fine. They both have played discs in the not very recent past because I was playing through Kingdom Hearts 3 on a disc just a few months ago and both Xbox One's were reading the disc without problem.

    Is anyone aware of any problems with the most recent OS that might cause this? Maybe I could try removing my consoles from the preview program and that would help?

    Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
    Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
    Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

    I just did that, nothing happened, disc still doesn't get recognized, but thanks for the suggestion. I think I might try taking my Xbox One X into the Microsoft Store near me and see if they can help me since they got rid of the Tech Support number.

    Backup Copies of XBox 360 games

    You're better off installing the games to the HDD and then using the discs only as a "key" for the game to boot up. That way, you won't damage your optical drive or game disc ;)
