Game disc error corruption

I was recently playing assassins creed valhalla on disc and because whilst I was playing the game one of the missions glitched so I couldn't progress. So I heard if I uninstall the game and reinstalled it then I would be able to progress on the mission. I tried that but now I can't get on the game as a corrupt message comes up telling me that the game is corrupt or there is a corrupt file, and it's telling me to uninstall the game and reinstall it I have done that 4 times, restarted it and done a full shutdown to see if that would help but nothing all I can think of now is to reset the xbox can anyone help me as played it since it was released and don't want to have to restart the whole campaign again its taken me over a year to get everything so need help please

- Are you using any external storage units with your console? if you are, is that where this game is installed?

Please keep in mind that Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X consoles automatically upload your games' data to the cloud when they are connected to the Internet and the Xbox Network, this means that even if you end up resetting your console, losing game progress is unlikely.

Yes, I purchased and downloaded GTA from the Xbox live marketplace and was getting a disc read error. I thought my old files from the disc version were corrupting the game but deleting them didn't help.

If it was down to a licence issue, the console will say it is unable to run or something, does not say "disc read error"

I had similar problem to this, and the problem was a corrupt HDD. Games that are stored on the bad portion of the HDD will imitate the disc read error. I bought my console from a GAME store, and they were able to swap the HDD, and then I have not had the
error since.

I ask because the game have been removed from the Xbox marketplace from a long time. I think it is very difficult to find original discs for this game and the ones you find are usually used discs. This would explain why two discs for the same game showed errors. Either the discs were already used and were damaged or they are not original discs and have corrupted game files.

The system software (also known as the 'operating system') is somewhat limited on the 360. With read errors, It will report the same error regardless if the game is a download or being read from a game disc.

It means either the download is corrupt, or the 360 hard drive is failing.
