Game disc damage after preview update 1408

I'm an Xbox preview registration member, and came home yesterday to a forced update for the console (the 1408 update). During the update installation, the disc tray made a loud buzzing sound that increased in volume, and the console became hot to the touch.

I turned off the console to let it cool, and checked the Titanfall disc which had been in the tray. The reader had made a deep circular gouge in the disc all the way around the circumference.

When the update finished, I saw (like other preview users) that my hard drive had been wiped by the update. And, because the Titanfall disc was damaged, I was unable to re-install the game data required to play the game.

I took the game to the retailer today (GameStop), but the store would not replace the disc and did not have a disc repair tool available. My cheapest option was then to buy a new copy of the game. After trading in the old disc, using a $10 coupon and going
in for a pre-owned copy of the game, I ended up having to spend $20.23 to replace the game.

The receipt from the transaction may be found at the Dropbox link below. I'd be interested to know if any other users have experienced this issue. I'd also like to request a $20 credit from Microsoft to my Microsoft account to compensate the loss.

The NEW Friends Tab

^^ You arent in the preview program so you wouldnt see the new Friends tab. Its only available in 1408, and will remain in extended beta even after 1408 is publically released.

 

Are you guys gonna fix my Xbox One? b/c it's not working.

Circular scratches in a disc are caused by movement of the console when it is on and a disc is inside. How do you have your console set in the playspace? Is it laying flat or standing on end?

 

Console was laying flat, and wasn't moved at all yesterday or since it was installed in January. A little concerned that it might be related to the hardware, but too scared to try putting in another disc at this point. Seems less likely though, as the
issue coincided with the update.

 

Well, I can't say anything for the condition of your game. However, if you are worried about putting another disc in the tray you should definitely consider setting up a warranty repair or contacting phone support to set one up.
