Game Controller Issue & Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

I am having trouble with the game, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice on the Xbox One.
When I try to load into the game, I get the message: “No user detected” and am trapped in the screen.
Doing the classic reboot (with 20+ sec waiting period) and reinstallation were of no help.
Online, I found that several people were having the same issue because controllers (possibly signed in on other accounts) and hard drives were still connected.
This was a mistake on the game maker’s end apparently. I had nothing other than my regular wireless controller connected (I removed the batteries from other controllers, went offline, etc.).
In fact, I even tried to get into the menu screen with no controller (or any device) on at all by allowing the game to load when I put in the disc after the Xbox booted up.
It still was not working…

However, I investigated the devices tab and found that in addition to my wireless controller (with the latest firmware update), two other, grayed-out controllers with the old firmware were present.
I have only owned/connected the two updated wireless controllers so I did not understand.
These grayed-out controllers could be configured like my regular controller, but they could not be updated or disconnected.
With some trial and error I found that if I signed all of the grayed-out/nonexistent controllers into my profile (the same one I have in my regular, updated controller) that I could reach the menu screen.
The game seemed to be looking to the nonexistent controllers for a profile.

But once I got to the menu screen, none of my buttons registered.
My regular controller functions perfectly (tested it in the devices tab).
Interestingly enough, that same controller’s buttons also registered for the nonexistent controller in the devices tab test but not in game.
I tried a few other solutions:

-Co-piloting my normal controller to the nonexistent one(s). They were co-piloted (according to the devices tab), but the buttons did not register in game.
I thought if my inputs on my regular controller could register into the nonexistent one it might work.

-I tried rearranging the controller order in the devices tab by turning co-pilot on and off until my regular controller was listed first.
This was a test to see if the game was just looking for first controller listed.
I then attempted this option co-piloted and not co-piloted with the nonexistent controllers.

-Lastly, I rearranged the controller order and signed the nonexistent controllers into guest accounts.
When I did this, I was ejected from the menu screen with a message that said “user change detected” and not allowed to return to the menu screen.

The evidence suggests that the game is looking for these nonexistent controllers with priority over my actual one.
Ideally, I believe the grayed-out controllers should to be removed/disabled.

I am not sure if this is important, but the first time I played the game, it gave me trouble at the menu screen.
I restarted my Xbox One, and it worked. I played for awhile (and enjoyed it) before shutting my Xbox down.
I have encountered the “no user detected” and menu screen problems every time I have tried to play since (and there have been many attempts).
Could the nonexistent controllers have been generated by the game after I played it the first time?

Please help! I am obviously not an expert.
