Game chat not working

My game chat is not working at all. I only play Apex in game chat so it could also be Apex. However gamechat works on my second Xbox for Apex. So I know its my Xbox, not my account. I've checked settings. It acts like Im in a party when Im not. Even with my headset off or even another headset connected, I cant hear random teammates nor talk to them at all so it cant be the headset. It even shows up like Im in a party when the match starts. Ive tried starting a party and switching to gamechat from party settings and still no luck. Its been like this for a few weeks and its starting to get annoying.

I realize my Xbox day one edition controller doesn't work with the headset. But when plugged into the second controller bought at game stop it works on there. Also when I hit the down button on the D pad it makes a loud spring sound.

Make sure you have game chat is on becuase people can hear you but not them or it may even be a settings in your xbox. Just a couple things to check.

mine is the opposite I can hear people but my mic wont light up at all, yes mute is off and in party party is turned on i dunno...

That happened to me. My NAT was strict go to network settings and see if ur NAT is open or strict then troubleshoot by testing multiplayer connection after test hold both triggers and bumbers then wait for it to show NAT info
