Game chat freezes game and kicks me

I have been trying for a few months now to get my game chat to work for
sea of thieves on my
xbox. To various degrees and results, when I plug in a mic (before or in-game) it freezes the game, only showing background layers of the screen graphics, eventually kicking me. Sometimes it works
enough that other (non-party) players can hear me, but only very partially.

My nat is open, and my xbox multiplayer connection troubleshooter test advises that there should be no issues. i have tried numerous mics (including the ms chat
set) with both of my controllers. Additionally, all my privacy and social options are set to 'adult' - making everything shareable. I have tried all the possible audio settings. I tried power cycling many times. Tried reinstalling the game, all to no change.

Party chat mostly functions, although when disconnecting from it, I have to unplug and plug the headset back in or my mic won't be heard.

My latency is 38 ms with a 0% packet loss and 22.19 mbps download speed. Is this insufficient? I am not sure how to proceed. Could you advise where I should look
to a solution? Any help would be most appreciated

Tried it with RDR2 online - it didn't kick me, at least, but otherwise was much the same - intermittent game chat, if at all.

Unfortunately, neither fresh batteries nor plugging directly into the wall helped. I even tried plugging the control directly into the xbox with no difference.

I've also (tried) updating my controllers many times, it tells me it's always updated already.

Is there any other info I could give you that may help isolate the issue?

My apologies, I read through all the posts to see if it was already recommended and I guess I missed it :/

Have you tried using your console while it is connected to a different network? Doing this can help eliminate the possiblitly of your home network causing the issue. A friend or family members home network would be the best option. A mobile hotspot is an
ok way to test it out if a friend or family members network is not an option. If the issue resolves on a different network, then we can help you troubleshoot your network.

Hello John,

Thank you for keeping us updated. I believe your console would benefit from resetting the operating system. You will not have to download all of your games and apps after performing this step. This step will however involve having to re-sign into your account
so, make sure you know the email and password before proceeding.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Settings.
Select All Settings.
Select System.
Select Console info & updates.
Select Reset console.
Select Reset and keep games and apps
