    Game Captures cut to 5-8 seconds, desperate for help


    I have a Gears 5 Xbox One X, and no matter what i record, my Game Capture is only 5-8 seconds long. No matter what i change (resolution, duration, storage, factory resetting xbox), it only ends up being 8 seconds long and its really upsetting me, ive been looking everywhere for days and am desperate for help

    Hello there @McMoisty, I hope everything is going well!

    Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support. I want you not to worry about the situation because I am here to help you out! I believe your console might need either a network reset or just a system refresh. I would like you to go through the following steps to clear the Mac address and then perform a quick power cycle on your console:

    Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

    After going through the troubleshooting steps mentioned, I invite you to perform a quick power cycle by turning off the console and then unplugging all the cables. After 2 to 3 minutes, re-plug them back again, then restart your console.

    In case the issue still persists, the next step would be to perform a reset on the console. To do so you will need to follow the steps below to perform a reset on the Xbox :

    Settings > System > Console Info > Reset This Xbox > Reset and Keep my Games and Apps.

    Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

    Thanks for reaching out here in Xbox Forums. I'm sorry to hear about the issues with recording game captures. Thank for trying the following troubleshooting steps:

    • try doing a power cycle
      (Disconnect and reconnect your console's power cable)
    • try doing a
      soft factory reset of the console,
      Reset and keep games and apps to help reset the operating system. (Please note before doing this troubleshooting step, make sure to know your email and passwords for your Xbox profiles.)

    If the issue persists, I recommend managing the captures on the Xbox Live and console. I have experienced the similar issue. My cloud was full with photo and video captures.

    Try this out and let us know the results.

    My best game in domination was 54 kills 21 deaths 11 captures and 19 defends. My worst game (kill wise) 8 kills 22 deaths 13 captures and 5 defends. Still came top of my team with only 8 kills

    Please perform a power cycle reset, follow these steps:

    Unplug the power cable from the back of the router, modem, or gateway for 5 minutes. If you have a router and a modem, unplug the power cable from both devices.

    Restart your Xbox One console. Press and hold the Xbox button in the center of your Xbox One controller to open the Power Center. Select Restart console and then select Restart. (If the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds, until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button on the console again to restart.)

    After 5 minutes, plug the modem or gateway in first, and wait for all the lights to return to their normal state.

    If you are using a router, plug in the router and wait for all the lights to return to their normal state.
