The Xbox One can't read and run the data directly from BC 360 game discs. The games don't run from the discs like they would on a 360 console.

When Microsoft made these games BC, it took the original games, and without getting into all the technical details, reverse engineered and repackaged them as a digital downloads so that the Xbox One can play them. This is why as Smwutches as already stated,
there is an 'Update' when you insert a BC disc 360 game into your console. This isn't an update, it's actually the digital version of the game.

This is why your 360 game 'updates' are around the 8-16 GB sizes. Still comparatively small compared to the average Xbox One digital game download.

The BC system for 360 games on the Series X will have to work the same as there is no other way to do it.

However, the Series X is architecturally similar to the Xbox One, so Xbox One games will install and play on Series X just as they do an on an Xbox One console.

Canada but the thing is every original Xbox and 360 game won’t work digital and physical. I bought Morrowind from the marketplace yesterday then downloaded it to the Xbox one X hard drive but got the error message. I have Xbox
live gold and gamepass but none of the backwards compatible games work from that either. I tried rare replay but none of the rare games made enhanced for the 360 worked even my own digital copy of banjo kazooie gave the error message. With physical disc games
a disc icon appears on the dashboard but when selected to install it states the game isn’t compatible and to check the list when the list says it is compatible. This was for every Xbox 360 and original Xbox game I tried.

I got a refund from where I bought it and then bought an Xbox Series X and my digital version of BO3 works fine.

If you bought the Xbox One version of the game or the Digital Deluxe version of the game, you will be able to play the game on your One X when the One version is released in April. If you only bought the Series S/X version, it will not work on the One X.

The digital upgrade gives users a dual license. One for the 360 and another for the xbox one. If you bought the digital version on xbox live marketplace then you would be ableto pay $10 for the xb 1 license. If you bought a physical copy you will have to
talk to the retailer you bought the game from to see if they are offering a coupon or upgrade program
