Game audio through headset without adapter

I apologize if I overlooked a thread where this has already been answered, but everything I found dealt with the adapter.

So, my living room with all of my consoles is right next to my room mate's bedroom. As I am usually awake pretty early, it would be great if I could use headphones for game audio. Unfortunately, I just can't seem to make that work. The settings I've found
on the console only seem to affect chat audio. Any solutions?

More info: My controller does have the 3.5 mm jack, so I'm hoping to avoid buying the adapter. Also, I've been trying to use my Bose QC15 headphones (though I've tried a few others.)

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

  2. Xbox One Headset Adapter Question

Is it possible to turn off the game audio that is being sent through the adapter and ONLY have chat audio be sent through it?

I have a Turtle Beach PX51 headset which gets surround sound audio by wirelessly, however, it also receives the game audio through the headset adapter making the game audio absolutely bonkers. It is way too loud and sometimes isn't in sync, so I get echoes.

    the newer 3.5mm controller

The chat headset is designed to only give you chat audio, and leave game audio coming through your television.

Any other headset will give you both game and chat audio through the headset, whether you use the new controller or the older version with the headset adapter.

When headphones are plugged into the controller, there should be an option to adjust the "headset volume" (which is the game volume through your headphones).

When headphones are plugged into the controller...

    • Double-tap the Xbox Guide button.
    • Go down to the "Settings" icon (picture of a cogwheel).
    • You should see a bunch of volume slider settings underneath the "All Settings" option.
      • Headset mic (on/off switch)
      • Headset Volume (slider)
      • Headset Chat Mixer (slider)
      • Mic Monitoring (slider)
    • Adjust "Headset Volume" to the desired volume level.
If you don't see all those volume options, your Xbox might need a simple
    power cycle
. Then you can try the steps above again.

The game audio through the controller works just fine with my pair of Bose QuietComfort 25 (QC25) headphones.

    Hopefully this helps!

  6. Other suggestions to think of:

    • Use a fresh change of batteries? Vibration and game audio gets disabled when the batteries run low.
    • Check for controller updates.
    • On "Headset Chat Mixer" slider bar, ensure it is set to at least (or at most) 50%. This balances game audio and chat audio from 100/0 to 0/100.
    • Ensure the 3.5mm audio connector is firmly connected into the controller's audio jack.
    • Test if your headphones aren't broken by connecting it to another audio source, like a laptop or MP3 player.
Hopefully it's one of these things!

Tried all of the above and still didn't get any audio. I finally broke down and bought the adapter today, and it worked like a charm. Hopefully that helps you narrow it down a bit. Even though I've already bought it, it would be nice if someone else could
    avoid it in the future.

    Thanks!

Gaming headphones typically have there private audio input that assosiate them directly to the console. Not sure about the Turtlebeach headphones, but my Trittons have a little amp/receiver with an optical input.

If you already have headphones though, it may be cheaper to get an adapters so they work with the 360. Just get something like

Any other tips regarding this? It's pretty straightforward on my PS4, I plug a headset into my controller and all audio is sent to my headset and audio to the TV/Soundbar is muted. Then there are separate settings for adjusting the game volume and chat volume
    to your hearts content.

Just received my Project Scorpio, and I can't figure this out. Turning the Headset Volume slider to the max brings the volume to acceptable levels, but still sends audio to my soundbar. Additionally, I'm having problems mixing the game/chat audio. I want
game audio at like 100 and chat at 75; is there any way to do this? I can barely hear chat if it's at 50 let alone 25.

Currently i'm using 100% chat and just blasting my TV, so I can still hear the game audio over my headphones. Any help or tips would be appreciated.
