    Use left & right on the tabs, then up and down for other build options. You need to get materials to un-gray it.

    I had the same problem and solved it..

    in the crafting table, focus on to the 'crafting table' option. Instead of selecting it, press down. it will show furnace ..

    (I know the response is late but might help others)

    did you check on the crafting table? try pressing Y it should be like the 4 item in the list of the first page and make sre you have 8 block of cobblestone.
