Full external HDD support needed for the 360

Little late 2B asking, but better late than never.

TB sized external support needed now more so than ever B4.

The 360 era's main compitition fully supports TB sized external HDD, yet the 360 itself is limited to 500 GB, main and only 32 GB externally?!

Yet when considering GwG plus install from disc games in order to keep wear/tear on the optics down to a minium. Us 360 owners need far more HDD space than 532 GB could possibly ever deliver.

So why not give us 360 owners full external USB HDD support before this years E3?

External HDD needed

My HDD is going to his limit. I really need the external support soon. I don't wanna delete and install all games again and again. Without an external HDD the digital distribution are useless.

After Thief and Titanfall Release just 50 GB more or less left on my HDD. It's make me really sad. I shouldn't be a problem to "activate" external storage. Come on Microsoft make us happy and fix it with the march update!

It doesn't recognise the External HDDs full capacity though, does it, c0deater..?? The Xbox 360, will only recognise "One" 16GB partition on any external HDD..

It is only 16GB, as the UEFI System Kernel, is not designed, for a USB Drive to handle any more than 16GB without the dashboard crashing..

Wont do any good as most on paTROLL there, and in these threads are pushing for the 360s and PS3s demise because they think continued support for them is the reason for holding back next gen console sales, and game development.

 

Wow, have you filled your 360's HDD? And how large is it? Honestly I don't see why it wouldn't be supported. The 360 is coming up on 10 years! Talk about an awesome milestone

Ask and apparently you shall receive, OP. It's just for the 360 preview members for now, but I imagine it won't take too long to hit the general population.

That is awesome news Leo, thanks for posting. I've got a spare 1tb hard drive and an enclosure to put it in, so I'm going to grab a lot of that I've not had room for before.

 

That is great to hear Leo.

Now, I need to save up for a TB sized external drive on the cheap. So if anyone in the preview program knows of what 7,000 rpm and ^ external drive works best without breaking my penny bank. Please post so I and others can make a more informed decision.

Na, I just made a post and I guess on the feedback page people voted in favore of it.

I am just happier than a Fox in a Hen house to read what I read in the link provided by Leo. Even if I dont obtain an external drive B4 support for the 360 ends. I am happy for those who can.

 

Maybe we'll get a future update that'll let us US external HDD's that are big in size. External HDD's are crazy cheap these days too and I could easily fill all of my games on a 1TB HDD. I'll probably get 2TB just to be safe.

Seagate and Western Digital are probably the two most common brands of external hard drive. Frankly, because of the footnote to the announcement (quoted below), I think I'd wait to pick one out until after general release of the new 360 dashboard just to
see if there is any further guidance from MS or comment from participants in the 360 preview program about brands of hard drives, specs, and their compatibility.

Footnote from the announcement:

"Note: Some drives may be incompatible or have performance issues. If you already have space reserved for storing Xbox 360 data, you will need to clear the Xbox 360 storage to gain full access to the drive. If you are in the Preview program, please review
the list of known issues before formatting your drive."
