Frozen Home screen, unresponsive controllers after playing Tormented Souls.

I have had the Xbox Series X for about 2 months now and I have had no major issues, that is until I started playing Tormented Souls. I got through the opening level just fine, escaped the bathroom, and was making my way towards the dark hall of the mansion when my screen started to get all glitchy. At first, I thought this was just part of the game, since it was meant to mimic 90s horror games. So I left the hallway, and proceeded about trying to get the generator power on. I couldn't figure out the generator puzzle and it was getting late so I decided I would call it quits and go to bed. When I pressed the home button on my Xbox controller the screen was glitching bad to the point where it looked like icons were shaking and there were all these weird colors. I turned off the console by pressing and holding the power button the console itself and went to bed. Woke up in the morning and figured that the system was going to be fixed but that didn't happen. This time, the screen looked normal but it was unresponsive, stuck on the Xbox home screen. It isn't just one controller but all of my controllers that are no longer functioning with the system. I even tried restarting the console and syncing the controllers again. I tried unplugging the Xbox from and plugging it back in. I was hoping that there is some type of fix other than me having to send my console to Microsoft and waiting for them to get it back to me. The **** kicker is, I had just paid off my preorder for Far Cry 6 and was looking forward to playing that. Looks like I have to wait a while longer.

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

- Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

- Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

- Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console.

- Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.

- Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.

- The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

If your console doesn't have an Eject button, you can bring up the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter on this console by holding only the Pair button (steps 3 & 4) and then pressing the Xbox button. Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.

- Once you see the Startup Troubleshooter, select Factory Reset and then choose "Keep Games and Apps"

- Once the Reset is complete, you'll be prompted to sign into your console using your Microsoft account credentials, after which you'll choose your preferred settings and your console should display normally again.

NB: A factory reset keeping games and apps will not delete your game saves as they are backed up in the cloud and will resync once you've signed in.

Hi, thanks for the advise. I tried this and reset everything, started like a new console and the same thing happened unfortunately. Half way through the first game I attempted on fifa17 so about 5 mins in. Just frozen screen and unresponsive apart from
the home button on the controller.

I can't even get the game to start. it's just frozen then after a few seconds it goes back to the home screen......... Its the only game that won't play.....

I've been having a similar problem the last few days. While playing a game I might go to the Home screen using the Home button on the controller. The system goes to the Home screen and freezes. I cannot select the game or move around the dashboard, but I
can hold the Home button and it goes to the "Console Off/Controller Off" screen, and then freezes on that screen. Hard resets will reset the dashboard, but it doesn't stop it from happening again. Once while playing a game, the game music continued playing,
but the Home screen was still frozen. This is irritating and I'm sick of tolerating it.

Try shutting down and restarting
